I actually didn’t know that until I looked it up yesterday.

Mind boggling that you can serve as President with a felony conviction.
Wasn't that long ago the mere accusation or appearance of plagiarism would doom a campaign. Quaint notion, innit?

We just had a POTUS who has been convicted of tax fraud, violations of Fair Housing laws and paid tens of millions to settle a fraud case brought by wannabe students of his sham university. And that's just a start.

Next stop, Vanilla Ice for POTUS.

Thanks legs!
I would love to reply as eloquently and knowledgeable as yours and I kind of understand most of your reply (Although I’m lost in some places) my Apologies.

I was just trying to see if Trump achieved anything during his reign and it seems very little (obviously)

Then How is it possible he’s ran Biden so close in this election? What was Trump selling to his voters that made them believe in him? I know a lot of people will say they’re “thick” but you can’t label almost half of the nation as thick.
I’m trying to understand how someone so hated by the masses globally was still in with a shout to get a second term.
Yeah, I’m not a particular fan of combining all 70 million of his voters into one homogenous group either.

For instance I can see that if you are a small business owner the combination of the tax cuts and deregulation could make a big positive difference in your life - more money in the bank and less paperwork to fill out.

Some will likely to be stylistic - there has been evidence of a large gender divide with women hating his persona where many men like the ”say what his thinks, damn the consequences“. Also cultural - Dems can come across as incredibly patronizing and condescending at times, “I think you might be a racist, please vote for me anyway” isn’t the most effective pitch.

There is probably some COVID fatigue/worry in there as well - “Biden will shut down the country, I‘m fed up and need to go to work”

A lot still believe he is a great businessman and, since prior to Covid the economy was doing well, feel he was entirely responsible for it.

Think back to the Brexit ref here.

Appeal to base fears. Sell a false narrative. Get hold of a meaningless slogan. (Take Back Control/MAGA)

Pretty much the same scenario.
There’s a little more to it than that though. A racist play isn’t enough to get anyone over the line here, or actually even get them close, IMO. There are some other interests that he appealed to as well. The mega rich (for the tax cuts) as well as Evangelicals (for the regressive judges) turned out for him.

The abortion debate alone probably swayed several millions of votes.

But how well was economy really doing? Obviously unemployment was low and the stock market was crushing. However, I think that narrative was largely built by middle and upper middle class suburbanites who are willing to sell their soul for their 401k and doesn’t tell the whole story. Sure people were “employed” on paper, but many of those people were gig workers who didn’t get health insurance, or people working full time jobs but barely able to scrape by, much less build any real wealth. I just think it’s important to distinguish that the economy and the Dow are not always one and the same.

Agree with everything you say there, just don’t think a lot of Trump voters do.
