Sanders would have definitely resulted in a Trump win. America is a bit like Britain in that they both lean slightly centre right. The centre left is fairly close to the centre right on the political spectrum and that's why labour tend to win when they are more centrist. Sanders is too left to win the level of support needed for the presidency and would have ensured Trump won.

The left need to be more pragmatic to win and that's why Biden was a safe choice. I don't think he's going to be a great president by any means but the more radical alternatives wouldn't have won.

This is a self-destroying circle though - it just results in right wing views being legitimised even as the impact of policies based on those views decimates the parties support.

People end up with a choice between lunacy and diet lunacy, and when someone comes along to suggest this path is a bit stupid and tries to change it, the diet lunacy spends it’s time attacking them rather than the enemy.

I agree Bernie would have lost, but that doesn’t change the fact that almost the whole top tier of that party is too old and too rubbish to survive tonight (whatever the result is). AOC would do well to look at a quote shared by Cromwell and Amery because it 200% applies here.
