So, I’m seeing lots of tweets about “democracy being dead” and “this isn’t how it’s meant to work”

I haven’t tracked the results or anything, so could someone please explain?

if more people voted for Trump than Biden, then - as crap as that is - it’s still democracy? Or are people moaning about how the US system works or has something else happened?

He has declared victory and demanded that legitimate votes that haven’t yet been counted be made in invalid. What he’s done is unheard of and a first in American politics. It’s like taking the lead in the first half and then demanding the match be ended at half time becase you’re afraid of what’s coming in the second half.

And of course he's stacked the SCOTUS in his favour to decide.

That said I don't think it'll matter, it looks like he's going to win regardless.
Looking at the districts left to count I’m not so sure tbh.

I don’t think he is either. Why shout fraud if you think you are going to win.

I dont understand US politics no matter how much I try to follow it!

But they have been saying votes can still arrive legitimately in some places until Friday. If that's the rules then Trump hasn't a point. I dont understand why that's allowed by that's neither here nor there, the rules are the rules.
It is complicated because each state has their own electoral rules. For example, here in NC the commissioner has allowed for any votes postmarked by November 3rd to be received and counted for several more days. Republicans tried to stop it but the Supreme Court voted in favor of North Carolina so the votes will be valid and to be counted, at least for now. There are other states where ballots had to been received by November 3rd, anything received after it then can be invalidated. So pretty much the laws are not uniform for the whole country and Trump is trying to make the most out of this situation

Can't agree with that at all. Local decisions should add up to give national outcomes.
I’m sure that’s great comfort to the people whose votes count for a fraction of what those in other parts of the country do.

The electoral college might have made sense when it was conceived, but it’s become (another) tool for minority rule.
