Getting Trump out of the White House is going to be the easy part. There'll be a serious attempt to mount insurrection if the Biden administration and the American law enforcement agencies dont treat the fascist threat unleashed by Trump seriously and crack down on them hard. It's going to get very ugly over there.

I’m no Trumper, but to vote him in again is a failure of the people to act instead of just commentating.
You get the leaders you vote for, via the system your nominees support.
I actually don't think you are, I can understand some of your thinking and critique but I encourage you to stop making some of the witless post that you have been making, they are not funny.

Aye I get that, I've lived there, but you've got the senate and the house for that. The president is head of state for all of them, so why not popular vote for the presidency?
TBF the Senate is arguably even more f’d up than the Electoral College.

2 votes for California (39.5M people, 11.9% of the national population) and 2 for Wyoming (578k, 0.18%) aye?

Tbf, I do understand why they would need a system like that. America can't be viewed as a country of 320 million people, it's a union of 50 states which are, in character and needs, often as vastly different as countries to each other. It needs to be refined I reckon, but the idea is fundamentally right

I think the system isn't that bad, they just need to tweak the no. of electoral college votes in each state. Like for example, California should definitely have a few more. Having a nationwide vote tends to lessen the importance of local issues, and local issues can in some cases be the ones which have the biggest effect on your life. Maybe that's more of an issue in the UK if you have say a terrible MP, but I'm sure local issues matter in the US as much as anywhere else.

I really don't like the idea of a nationwide vote for PM instead of our general election here. Having some form of local vote and local representation is good for UK politics generally. Again, we just probably could do more to make sure all constituencies have a more similar amount of voters.

Because it takes an amendment to do such a change and it would have been a political outcry from Republicans. Obama would probably had gotten lynched by even making the suggestion. Obama was also too much of a moderate to make such a change. That's why we needed someone more radical as Bernie to make such changes. Maybe this time around if Biden wins, and we also win a great number of seats in the Senate and also the House then Democrats stop playing nice and push for such a change but it will take 2/3 of them to approve such a change so it is not an easy task.
Agree Bernie is seen as a radical but also part of the generation that is too blame. There needs to be a new wave of younger candidates, challenging the system without seeming to be a victim of it in the past as Bernie is seen to be.

Understood, it just seems that it’s easy to blame Trump for everything when really he’s just using the system everyone buys into.
Change is needed, that’s not Biden I’m afraid

Hilarious.

Like the quarter of a million people who've died in large part due to the ineptitude of him and his administration. Side splitting

God bless democracy!
And how would it of been different with someone else in charge?

This just makes me sad. No previous president has done as much damage to so many people, from firing up white nationalists, to making muslims more of a target. Separating parents from children as young as a few months old, putting people in cages. Targeting LGBTQ community and helping to try to remove abortion access. Weakening the security of America, praising dictators - I could go on. Thats before we even start with COVID.

One of the most despicable men in the world. Its not about left or right at this point, its basic human decency.

I agree about local voting and representation, I wouldn't want a presidential style election for PM either, but the PM's role isn't equivalent to the President's. The Queen is head of state in the UK.

Let’s hope the decent thing is done then in the coming hours.
If not there needs to be a big mirror held up both on the voters and the system that allows him in place
