This thing is gonna get real smelly, real quick.

Trump will not go quietly into the night. Keep safe Mericans I fear for you.

He will rage against the dying of the light.

Seriously though, imagine the horror of him and his family knowing all the charges that will be filed once he's no longer president.

It's just about how far into the 300 electoral college votes this goes now. 330-360 is the bookies favourite spread bet.

I don't agree. If this were an "ordinary election", I would have more faith and confidence in the polls than I do, and I'd tell you that 300 is likely.

With the unusual mail ballots, it's likely that there will be a much higher rate of vote spoilage (invalidated ballots) than normal. It's very hard to put a magnitude or a direction on the expected effect, especially if the courts get involved. That introduces additional uncertainty.

He's not who I would have picked, but I do think in current circumstances, he was the best option to put up against Trump. He is moderate enough (and old white guy enough) to not scare GOP or right leaning independents and allow them to vote for him when Trump is the alternative.

Right. To borrow from Al Davis, Biden was always the "Just win, baby" candidate. He's a known quantity, he's been vetted to the nines, and he's closer to the ideal point of the voters the Democrats are trying to siphon away from Trump.

This has been a weird race independent of COVID. Candidates should, in principle, drift to the extremes to try to win the primary then pivot back to the center in the general. One big advantage of being an incumbent president is that you usually get to skip (or effectively skip) the primary and run straight for the middle, while the opponent has to pivot.

This time, Biden has stayed firmly rooted to his party median position that he's been occupying for nearly five decades now, and Trump has been Trump. Any apparent leftward drift for Biden is IMO best explained by the party (and the U.S. generally) drifting left due to COVID.

That is not at all normal.

Just been watching an interview with Jeff Flake the former Rep senator for Arizona who said he doubts the lead quoted for Biden, but he's confident the state has gone Biden's way this time. I know he's a 'Republican for Biden', but that sounded convincing.

If that's the case, Trump's route to victory is nigh on impossible.

Drive-thru voting?
Due to a horrific COVID outbreak in Harris County, the County Clerk increased the number of voting opportunities - including the option of drive-thru voting which is an expansion of traditional curbside voting. The latter is typically a case where a person who is confined to a wheelchair or needs substantial assistance to walk. Instead of entering the polling location, a poll worker delivers a ballot to the vehicle and accommodation is made for the voter (still has to show ID and go thru the regular process). Curbside voting has been available for many, many years. Drive-thru locations were specifically created for traditional curbside voters as well as pregnant women or people who have compromised immune systems who feared exposure to COVID as another option. Temporary structures were erected in parking lots (car parks) and the driver would pull in where a poll worker would provide the occupants of the vehicle with services to vote.

All of this was approved by the Texas Secretary of State. Lawsuits didn't appear until after Harris County voters started turning out in record numbers.
