Yes, shes Australian

Thought Raso and the rest of the side looked decent today, playing some really good stuff.

I really hope they have a proper go at the title - it's great to see Moshiri supporting Kirk and the women's team with their quality recruitment ( as it seems they are with the men's team), especially when you look at how badly supported the rs women's team has been by their owners.

I think myself the top 3 is maybe out of reach as its usually the same top 3 of Chelsea, Arsenal and man city, i do think 4th has a good chance as many think its between us and man utd for that place, but if we do break into the top 3 somehow it would not surprise me, but we seem to do the Everton thing of mostly beating the lower down sides while struggling v the so called better teams, suppose this season with the brilliant signings they have made maybe give a better idea of how they may do this season, They play chelsea in last season's Q/F of the FA CUP in 3 weeks so who knows.

Ahem, draws breathe, here goes. I watched highlights from all the WSL games just played and have to say that the poor standard of play in all games does not justify the hype. It is not progressing much and I don't know what will make it progress. I know it is not politically correct to say this, but few would pay money to watch it. Sorry!

SUNDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 1PM KO
WOMENS SUPER LEAGUE
EVERTON WOMEN 1 SPURS WOMEN 0

After a brilliant performance and a deserved win that should have been by many more last week away to Bristol City, 2nd placed Everton playing just there 2nd WSL game at walton park after the man utd game in Feb were this week up against Spurs women who finished one place below Everton in there 1st season in the WSL, Everton put in 2 excellent performances v Spurs last season winning 3-1 at home a game in which Captain Lucy Graham scored a stunning goal and drew 2-2 away in a game that they were so far on top missing chances galore for just under 70mins that it was quite hard to fathom out how they lost a 2 goal lead that night, Everton were looking for 2 wins from 2 that would keep them 2nd due to Arsenal women winning away to west ham women 9-1 - yes Nine, before a 3 week league break due to Internationals and then to finish last season's FA Cup, we are at the Q/F stage of that were Everton play chelsea in 2 weeks at walton park - so that will be a good early test to see how the new team are doing. Everton made 2 changes for this game with Claire Emslie making her full debut and Abbey Leigh Stringer comming into the team for Clemaron and Sorensen. Egurrola was also in the squad for the 1st time after she had to quarantine for 2 weeks taking the place of Kika van es on the subs bench

Onto the game and Everton were so close to going 1-0 ahead on 7mins [below video] when Hayley Raso stole the ball from the spurs backline but her low shot to the spurs keeper's right was saved very well by Becky Spencer, again just one minute later after an Everton break Raso took aim from distance which again was saved a lot easier this time by the spurs keeper, but again it was another excellent start by Everton this game and in particular Raso, Spurs had a good breakaway on 19mins were they failed to make it pay when they should have done better down the right, Captain Lucy Graham was pretty quiet this half in a game that was pretty even but with Everton looking the more Dangerous going forward, upto the 37th minute spurs had not even tested the Everton keeper, but that changed on 41mins [below video] when Sevecke trying to stop a corner miss controlled and from the resulting corner which was cleared away, the ball was fired back in from distance via Josie Green which was well saved by Maclver, Kit Graham for spurs then had another chance for spurs in injury time when her shot was saved again low down to Maclver right, but it was 0-0 at Half time

On 48mins Half time spurs sub Ayane took aim from distance trying to catch the Everton keeper of her line but it went well wide, but Everton finally took the lead on 51mins for there overall effort in this game when half time sub Sorensen who was unlucky not to start put in an excellent cross from the left which was well headed home by Izzy chrisentsen, On 66mins Everton thought they had a pen when Magill was bundled over in the area but the ref instead pointed the other way given Magill a yellow for diving, Ayane on 76 mins then did a twist and turn in the box but her shot was right at Maclver, Gauvin straight onto the pitch from the subs bench and with her 1st touch had a header from a free kick that was tame in reality and easy from distance for the keeper, but in a hard fought game Everton got a deserved overall win to make it 2 wins from 2,to stay 2nd with the 3 week league break

Everton are one of only 2 teams to win there 1st 2 games, while they are one of only 3 teams yet to conceed a goal-the other 2 been Man city and brighton

SHORT BBC HIGHLIGHTS

Everton boss Willie Kirk hailed his players' desire to push each other to their maximum levels after the Blues maintained their 100 per cent start to the WSL season with a win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Izzy Christiansen headed home the game’s only goal in the 51st minute as Everton kept tabs on Arsenal at the WSL summit.

The result sees the Toffees move level on points with the Gunners, two clear of Chelsea in third, and means they are yet to surrender any points - let alone a single goal in the opening two fixtures.

“We knew it would be a physically tough afternoon,” Kirk said.

“It was a nice day and the sun was beating down on us - that takes a little bit extra out of us in terms of our energy levels.

“We didn’t put the game to bed, but I felt we controlled the vast majority of it and it was almost around the 40-minute mark before they had any possession in and around our half.

"The girls were fantastic from start to finish.”

Everton got off to a flying start last weekend, with Lucy Graham’s player of the match performance inspiring an emphatic 4-0 win at Bristol City.

This time round it was a very different affair as Kirk’s side were forced to be patient and dig in after Hayley Raso’s early sighters were snuffed out and Spurs grew into the match.

However, a half-time substitution from Kirk swiftly changed the complexion of the match as the Blues raced out of the traps and into the lead as Nicoline Sorensen planted her cross from the left onto Christiansen’s head.

It was a goal that proved to be the decisive blow - and Kirk was left delighted by the character his side showed to rise to the challenge and drive each other on.

“There are always challenges on and off the park, but challenges are what bring people together,” added. “If everything goes well then we probably don’t learn much about each other.

“The group has been fantastic and we will continue to grow. They are just getting to know each other so there’s still a lot we need to find out.

“We have got good competition for places.

"We made two changes today and a few substitutes - it’s so tough to get into the team and the players know that. That brings its own challenges, but they’re certainly rising to it.

“They’re training so, so hard against each other so when it comes to challenges like today it’s something they’re used to from their training. Everyone is playing their part.

"I absolutely believe that will drive us onto big things this season.”

VITALITY WOMENS FA CUP 2019/2020 QUARTER FINAL
EVERTON WOMEN 2 CHELSEA WOMEN 1

On a cold but sunny day, Everton today came up against one of the best if not the best women's teams around at present Looking to make the biggest statement of Intent they could, if they could win at Goodison Park. They were up against a Star studded Chelsea team in the Delayed quarter final game from March with a favourable semi final draw if not easy game away to Brighton or Brighton to look forward to on Wednesday, Everton actually got knocked out the semi final's just 2 years ago with a last minute goal v Arsenal, While Arsenal were actually the last team Everton women beat in the FA Cup final in 2009 with oddly a last minute extra time goal. Everton were knocked out by Chelsea last year in the FA Cup 2-0 and overall surprisingly Everton have actually won nearly double the amount of games v chelsea than they have v Everton, But Everton have not won in the last 7, but the previous 8 from 9 before that were Everton wins. The FA have ruled only six fresh faces can be registered for the remainder of the tournament so that means 1 new summer signing would miss out and that looked to be on loan star Claire Emslie, while England Women manager Phil Neville back at Goodison Park today to watch the Game

Chelsea began strongly as expected and the threat started down the left with Sandy Maciver doing very well to collect a dangerous ball across goal in the 1st 2mins, but it did get worst as on 5mins when Chelsea did take the lead when Erin Cuthbert sloted home the opener from inside the area, it so nearly got worst on 7mins when Maclver made an excellent save from the most expensive women's signing in the WSL Pernille Harder with the rebound from Fran Kirby's header been headed off the line by Lucy Graham, The 1st 10mins were so one sided it was untrue with attack after attack from chelsea with another chance nearly comming about after the keeper dropped the ball at the near post but just about cleared, it took Everton just over 10mins to even get a chance to move up the pitch but they were slowly getting back into the game, but Chelsea showed just why they are so good, Everton finally got half a chance on 19mins when Raso down the left after a pass from Lucy Graham cut in, but the ball was getting away from her and her shot was one were she was reaching for it as she took it but just wide of the near post, Erin Cuthbert on 26mins then had a shot from the edge of the 18 yard box which was saved by Maclver, Millie Bright on 31mins then had a long range shot just wide but the keeper had it covered, Cuthbert on 34mins then had another half chance when her left foot shot from the 18 yard box was easy for the keeper, but right out the blue Everton got a equaliser on 39mins after a Brilliant well worked move with Sorensen to Wold down the right and her cross picked out Captain Lucy Graham in the middle and Graham headed home, it so nearly got better for Everton a few mins later when Raso with her speed beat the keeper and the chelsea defender to the ball but her shot was cleared off the line by Jess Carter [chance below], Pernille Harder then headed over the bar with the last chance of the half, it was 1-1 HT in a game were chelsea were so on top quite a lot of that half but Everton did very well to get back into it and got stronger the more the half went on

Everton started a bit better the 2nd half with Gauvin having a shot blocked, while the other end Chelsea had a glancing header go wide, Everton keeper Maclver then made a fantatsic save in a one on one when it looked a certain goal from Chelsea from Fran Kirby [chance below], she made another great left handed save from a powerful shot on 53mins from Harder, Chelsea started to again take control, Raso for Everton then had a blocked shot easily saved on 60mins, there was then a funny moment when chelsea on the breakaway via Fran Kirby who ran into the ref and the ref just let it go with Kirby getting up limping, but on 62mins EVERTON took the lead when on the left after super work from Raso she twisted and turned and her cross was headed home by big money signing Valerie Gauvin, Maclver then made another super save on 72mins from Pernille Harder who was only around 6 yards out, Beth England then had a header save low down once again by Everton keeper Maclver on 82mins, Boye-Hlorkah down the right then cut in but her shot when others were better placed was weak and easy for the chelsea keeper, but Everton held on for a 2-1 Win and This was a truly sensational and magnificent victory for Everton who were well and truly the massive underdogs v a chelsea team they had not beat since september 2013 and they are not just one of the best sides in the WSL but in Europe and EVERTON ARE IN THE SEMI FINALS with Maclver a cert Player of the match
