Takeover?

Things seemed to have red down a bit aye. The should be a 24 hour cool down peroiod so nobody gets ahead of them selves.

OK, look. you think that the fact that WAN put out that statement means 100% certainly that it has happened. I'm pointing out that it might not, and there's still significant doubt over it. Every single other news outlet is reporting it as rumour, and nobody is running it as a major story, so they don't see it as fact.

The likes of Reuters do have journalists who write their own stories, you are incorrect there; I assume WAN is the same.

OK, here is the statement in full

Ahmed acquires 60% of a leading English football club

Jun 21, 2009 - 08:30 -
WAM Ras Al Khaimah, 21st June 2009 (WAM) -- Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Customs and Seaports, has acquired 60 per cent of a leading English club of premier league Sheikh Ahmed will be the honorary chairman of the club.

More details about the deal will be announced at a press conference to be held within the few coming days.

WAM/TF

You dissect it. Not sure if a report from the Guardian counts as signficant doubt. The sun report Sheikh ‘buys 60 per cent stake’ | The Sun |Sport|Football is as silly as it gets. "City experts were last night sceptical" who are these city experts. What are they sceptical about? The Sun has less than a 30% accuracy in transfer reports.

I am not here to convince you that the story is 100% kosher. It may come with a twist, it maybe speculation. All I am saying s don't immediately assume that its tosh when we will know according to the press release we will know the truth within the next few day.

If you want to believe its total tosh that's OK.

As mentioned before, if its true, it may not even be us anyway.

Great news if it is us, according to my uncle in Dubai, Abu Dhabi backs Dubai financially in many ventures and would be likely to do the same for RAK if they took over Everton

I grew up in the Middle East, 14 years from when I was 6. Those types of cooperative ventures extend to projects that are financially beneficial to the whole of the UAE - like funding hotels, sports facilities, Universities etc.

This is going to be more a case of this Sheikh from RAK using his own personal wealth to be the latest Emirati Royal to enter their Premier League pissing contest.

I'd reckon that RAK's the 3rd richest Emirate behind Abu Dhabi & Dubai (perhaps Sharjah), so their ruling family's got plenty of cash to allow whichever club they've invested in to compete for big money signings - but they're still not going to have anything like the bank balance of the guys that bought City.

Sounds a bit like a bullshit story to me. Looking at the newspapers, there's very little information there. It seems still to be in rumour land.

Maybe it will turn out true, and the investor does come to Everton, and Moyes finally gets his £25m a season (or whatever).

A note (might have been published on a previous page but I ain't trawling through 36 pages): The individual being touted as the new owner, Ahmed bin Saqr al-Qassimi, is a member of the ruling Ras al-Khaimah family. The Emirate isn't a major oil producer, but instead produces cement and ceramics!!

1. Shiek buys the club

2. Tries to buy everyone in sight except for the players Moyes wants.

3. Moyes gets fired after the 3rd match.

4. Try to poach Murinho but he turns us down.

5. Hire Sven

6. Play dull footie finish 10th.

7. Fire Sven

8. Try to hire a big name........end up with Mark Hughes.

9. Fresh off a 5 goal injury plagued season we buy Roque Santa Cruz for 80M.

10 Finish 12th.

but a takeover (subject to due diligence) has happened. We simply don't know which club yet.

The statement is clear and in black and whilte.

The proof is in the statement put out by WAM and will be confirmed over the next few days. I don't have to prove anything. I just have to wait a few days to discover if its us or someone else being taken over, or more correctly, receiving inward investment.

I am not here to convince you that the story is 100% kosher.

So that's clear then.

So your position is that it may be true, it may not be true? Because that was my position when I questioned the statement that it was 99.9% certain to be true. I certainly never said at any point it was tosh, just that it comes from an uncertain source. Glad we agree anyway.

Nothing in it me thinks. The main UAE news agencys havent got anything about it. Only 1 little report. No quotes from anybody.

I smellls bullcrap.
