Takeover?

If it was reported by Reuters, I'd believe that something had happened.

I agree, given that by something you are including anything as far wide as a hoax. I agree that it probably isn't 100% made up by a WAM journalist. That doesn't make it certainly true.

Journalist checked various sources and discovered the truth. Apart from the Guardian, who use a half quote from Joleon Lescott to prove he's going to Man City, I've not seen anyone else talk about skepticism so while I read the Guardian, I recognnise that they can be as duplicitous as any other media source.

Fine, but you are CERTAIN a club has been sold. And only the Guardian actually say "skepticism", but nobody else is reporting it as truth so it's there implicitly.

So you would need to answer the question why would the Sheikh lie?

Dozens of explanations, including: it wasn't the Skeikh, he's trying to drum up publicity, he's negotiating with a club so he's trying to play hardball by claiming he's already signed a deal with another, a UK club playing hardball with another buyer to push up the price by inventing alternate buyers, there is a genuine misunderstanding between the agency and the company, there is a genuine misunderstanding between the Sheikh and his press agent, or just a genuine error at WAN.

There are then a host of much less likely reasons, that are slightly possible, including - a UK hoax, a hoax by a friend of the Sheikh, some mischief making, etc.

Again, given its a one sentence statement which says it will be clarified in a few days, I reallly don't see why we need some definite proof before then.

Erm...because all I said was that there is a good chance that no club has been bought. You said that I was certainly WRONG, that a club had 100% been bought and it was a question of which one (and that I had a chip on my shoulder for pointing that out). To make those statements, you do indeed need proof today.

someone on a forum I'm on just said West Ham are a PLC, could be another one that's bitten the dust, I'll look it up

WAM is a news agency, not a speculative journalist such as the Sun, NOWT or even tribal football. Your confusing the two. Reuters simply reports the news i.e it publishes, it doesn't do investigative journalism. All WAM have done is release a statement given to it.

I am certain that a statement by a named person has been put out on a news agency saying that they have brought 60% of a prem club. If the person existed (he has an entry in Wikipedia) and nobody disputes that he is a real person given that the statement was released at 8:30 yesterday don't you think that someone would have come out by now to denounce the false press release if it was a hoax?

Nice fantasy about bids designed to get a club by unfair means, but you forget. Someone doing this is unlikely to be seen as a fit and proper person, and the clubs would more likely tell them to sling their hooks as clearly they are not serious about a purchase. Such messing with deals, particularly amongst arab countries is done in private.

The statement is clear and in black and whilte. It says 60%, why would I advance anything else when there is no proof.

The proof is in the statement put out by WAM and will be confirmed over the next few days. I don't have to prove anything. I just have to wait a few days to discover if its us or someone else being taken over, or more correctly, receiving inward investment.

I was excited until i saw the term "leading club" which in media talk probably means an average mid-table side.

It will be great if it is us though (y)

You forgot 'from london'!

I bet we still go to Kirkby.

Maybe this will give the club the money to do up Goodison? Or just to provide the funds needed for Kirkby???

Happy? :)

This is gonna be such an anticlimax if we don't get taken over

Nah its ok, we got Megan instead. Fair trade if you ask me!! :)

Love all the people trying to talk down that it might be us. Does sound promising, but who knows.... keep keeping our feet on the ground and our heads out of the clouds guys!! :)

Great news if it is us, according to my uncle in Dubai, Abu Dhabi backs Dubai financially in many ventures and would be likely to do the same for RAK if they took over Everton

Until one club comes out and admit it's them or the promised reveal on wednesday occur.. it's not much use in speculating about what certain words mean. We just have to wait.

OK, look. you think that the fact that WAN put out that statement means 100% certainly that it has happened. I'm pointing out that it might not, and there's still significant doubt over it. Every single other news outlet is reporting it as rumour, and nobody is running it as a major story, so they don't see it as fact.

The likes of Reuters do have journalists who write their own stories, you are incorrect there; I assume WAN is the same.
