Fellaini if he sits in front he makes up for their lack of height back there. Has to start with Jags and Heitinga after that display by dustbin. Should be taken out the back and shot ffs never mind dropped.

Yes but come on mate, Heitinga was ace last season in defence, Jagielka is our best centre half.

Jagielka has pace, tough tackling and great reading of the game, Heitinga reads the ball well, defends well and is super at distributing the ball out of defence.

That's some ingredients there mate, its like Jagielka is toast and Heitinga is cheese. They belong together.

Spot on. I would pos rep you for that if I could.

Seriously? Past few games more like. Never been his biggest fan, don't think he's good enough for us.

Utter tosh. He's been one of our best players in the past few games. Today-aside of course.

Put like that it does bode for an interesting combination. Although I'm sick of hearing "lack of height". Heitinga is good in the air, Jags is fantastic in the air. Tim Cahill's smaller than the both of them, and he's scored more headed prem goals than anyone else. Ever. Stupid point. But yes, I'm only supporting your argument here.

Although the "Distin is crap" and "try Heitinga and Jags" arguments aren't mutually exclusive. I think Distin is a good defender, and he's been fantastic so far this season. Except for today. But dropping a player after one bad game is beyond unfair. If he continues in that vein, then fine. And I would like to see the Jags/Heit combo, don't get me wrong. And they're 27 and 28 respectively, so they've got a good few years left, unlike Distin. But right now, I think changing the CB partnership after one poor game from Distin is the epitome of a knee-jerk reaction.

Fair enough mate. Can see where you're coming from. Unlike the bandwagon Distin Outers (I have membership number 2 in the club lid ), I've been saying it for a while including last season too mate.

I'll admit for the first half of the season, he wasn't great. But who was? In defence especially. It's hard when your CB partner is changing on a weekly basis.

But just before Jags came back, and especially after, he's been good. This was obviously the biggest test yet, and he failed. But Heitinga had a poor game. Heitinga's been tosh so far this season. I'm not saying he's crap though. Far from it. You've got to see how things play out, and have some faith. I'll hold my hands up if Distin plays like that again soon, but I doubt it. I think he'll be ace against the barcodes next week.

I will agree with you though, in that the Jags/Heitinga combo is the future.

Exactly what I was saying....

Oh, you meant he's ONLY been good the past few games?

That's still tosh, mate.

Heitinga is centre half though mate, so not making excuses for him but its like playing Distin left back and saying he was [Poor language removed], a bit understandable.

Agreed on the future combo thing, I just want it to start next game lid, what we waiting for?

Heitinga has said his two best positions are there, and CB, and he's comfortable with them both. It's not quite like Distin at LB. It's just a case of Heitinga being a more versatile player.

The thing with defenders though, is that there's no point changing them round unless there's a problem. In the past few games, it's been individual errors. Our defensive unity and positional sense has been great. Today Distin was badly gash, and low and behold we concede 3 times. But let's be honest, Heitinga was at fault for Fletcher's to some degree, but mainly, their goals were just pretty fantastic. Nani's delivery was sensational.

My point is, I'm not worried. Distin and Jags have a partnership going. Odds are, if you put Heitinga in now, it would take a few games for him and Jags to get up to speed. So I can't see that happening unless Distin gets injured -- or, has a bad run of games. And so far he's had a bad run, in the singular.

He was still ace in the air though. Something I didn't think he was good at last year, was using his height effectively. He's done that this season.

Anyway, why are moaning about this area of the defence? The real question is, why the heck isn't Coleman starting!?!?!?!?!

FFS MOYLES OUT :P

I'd love to see Heitinga partner Jagielka if only to have Fellaini in his rightful position! I've been a little critical towards Jags for a couple of games, despite his great positioning, reading and last ditch tackles I thought he was being pulled out of position to easily and his passing was letting him down. But i've since thought it's maybe a lack of confidence and communication with Distin. Howard seems to be forever gesticulating with Distin over communication issues. Maybe if Heitinga was left footed we wouldn't be debating this.

Heitinga stated he is a centre back mate, and got to a World Cup final playing in that position. He is a much better option for centre half and Jagielka is a better option than Distin so the science is to put them together. Good players gel, lets start that process rather than having to persist with waiting for Distin to place my heart in my mouth weekly. Or piss me off.

Plus, Heitinga leaves defensive mid and Fellaini reverts to his ace position. Super.

Agreed on Coleman mate, although Hibbert didn't do too bad today I'd still much prefer him there.
