Sylvain Distin

Hes improved and been impressive, but i agree on the cleansheet record been abysmal since Lescott left. One thing that puzzeles me about Yobo leaving is that his partnership with Jags was prob our best in terms of clean sheets over the past number of seasons.

A massive option not to have for me.

Baines prob our most consistent performer for me.

The point was, radio... is our defence hasn't been all that against lower opposition so the praise for one central defender is a tad over the top - in my opinion.

He had too many shockers for me last season - the "accident waiting to happen" feeling won't go just yet on the back of a few acceptable performances.

But each to their own.

I see your point, but, every game is as important as the rest; all 3 points. And there are more teams below us than above us, so if Distin actually is prone to errors against good opposition, then it's better that than the other way around. Although it's better to not be prone to errors altogether! But, then I don't think he is. I think when Jags makes a mistake, or even fan fav Heitinga, people wash over it. When Distin does, they remember it.

I, personally, love all 3 defenders -- as players on the pitch and off. And I trust Moyes to pick the best 2 for the occasion. We've seen what happens when you're not up to it; Yobo.

Baines always is. He made that one mistake last season, against Fulham was it? And didn't we win in the end anyway? Point is, he doesn't do it often. He's always one of the top 3 or so players of the game.

Distin picked up big time when Jagielka came back, they've been pretty sweet together.

I'm always surprised when he has to get his sprint on, for such a big guy he's mighty quick.

Before everyone starts analysing the [Poor language removed] out of goals conceded, maybe our priority should be to look at the sheer amount of chances we've failed to put away down the other end?

Me too. He has been better but he just does silly balls and runs into trouble.

He's boss at intercepting on the by line though so we should keep our best cb from last season and world cup finalist on the bench.

He's our fastest defender, I'd say. Even faster than Baines. He's a beast Distin, really. Got height, power and pace.

But you're right. Our problems aren't defensive, they're offensive. That said, we've conceded early in the two games we've lost, so we've had to try and break down two defenses that have packed themselves in. We still should have scored, mind, but it doesn't help.

I agree with what you said, mate. I think his long range passing is better than Jags' too.

before this game, i was really pleased with him this season. dont think we should chop off his head for one horrible game.

do think that johnny would be a better option, but distin is usually pretty average (thats it, just average)

I'm a big fan of his, but he was shocking today.

However, one bad game doesn't make you a bad player. If he's back to how he was in the next game and onwards, then it's alright for me.

He truly had a shocker. Thing is, Jagielka wasn't much better and Heitinga as DM was totally anonymous too. But it's expected that Distin will geat some heavy stick, which never would be done to Jags or Heitinger.

Jags is looking a better player for England than for us at the moment. Distin does some excellent covering, but dithers far too much. Heitinga seems to lack concentration and discipline. I can't see us keeping many clean sheets with any permutation of the three.
