Sylvain Distin

To be fair to Moyes..... Distin was the ideal direct replacement for Lescott.....short term. He was reletively cheap and a left sided centre half with good premiership experience. I don't doubt Moyes's decision to sign him.

Afterall....when Rooney was in his last season with us, there was only 2 defenders in the league at that time who had Rooney in their back pocket....Rio Ferdinand marshalled him at Goodison he didn't get a sniff!! and also Distin owned him when we played City at Goodison. I can still to this day remember admiring how well Distin had done and from that day onwards I'd always rated Distin very very highly.

The problem is...... in his last season at Portsmouth his age started to show....he was absolutely shocking. Mistake after mistake and this is why I state the signing was only going to be beneficial for us short term. He is always prone to a mistake and if you want to compete with the best you can't have that. On his game though he is was of the best centre halfs I've seen. That may all be in the past though.

I also think Heitingas trumpet gets blown far to much on here aswell. I think he lacks commitment and loyalty on and off the pitch. Its like a stroll in the park for him, hes not all that!

Out there on his own, he is the poorest.

Highlighted on MOTD by Dixon, how poor he was.

Ya was thinkin wow Lee Dixon is making a valid point or two here, until he uttered some tripe about how unlike Distin it was for him to play so poorly.

Am genuinely worried that Moyes will persist in picking this guy. The best thing for Distin himself at the mo could be to be taken out the team hes lacking in confidence, hes body language showed that on sat, not what we need at centre half at the minute.

No worse than Jags in my opinion, both these guys need to work on distribution.

They are not the only ones. There are a long list of defenders who choose this approach without much success.

Weir
Gough
Stubbs
Hibbert
Yobo
Naysmith
Xavier
Unsworth

Below are the exceptions:
Baines
Coleman
Heitinga
Ferrari
Neill

Fair enough mate. Can see where you're coming from. Unlike the bandwagon Distin Outers (I have membership number 2 in the club lid ), I've been saying it for a while including last season too mate.

For some reason the link wont work so ill just post the quote directly here :

It was unintentional that he helped out though, on his part it was selfish actions handing in a transfer request on the eve of the season.

But I suppose the big Frenchman came in, and I just love him.
