Swearing Warnings?

Had one gent on who is particularly appalled and had sleepless nights at what he perceives to be desperately unfair and defamation. He's saying he left early and can't face going the next game as he feels ashamed. He claims only his seat in the area had the leaflet. He asked people nearby who didn't understand, and stewards couldn't help. He's adament he didn't say anything bad and if he did, he wonders why the club didnt come to him direct.

The fact that they have Goodison Park crossed out and that there's been nothing about it from the club through other channels does make me wonder whether it's a prank. I know we haven't always been the most professionally run out outfit but if it's something they wanted to do it's hard to believe that they couldn't have printed off a couple of hundred new leaflets and reinforced the message with stuff on the screen/tannoy/programme etc.

In Goodison, being on the terrace was a lot more compact, with the feeling of all the fans on top of each other. At the new stadium it doesn't feel like that, you feel a lot more exposed if that makes sense. Almost like you can see everyone individually in the south stand at least. Which probably makes it a lot easier to single you out for swearing and getting yourself a reputation amongst other fans/stewards, which is why we are now seeing this play out.

I also think thats a big issue why there isn't much of an atmosphere. Starting a song off on your own feels like you are front and centre on a stage ( on your own) in the south stand, it was easier to belt out a funny shout or a start a song from the compactness of the gwladys.
Exactly right. That's why I would have preferred the standing area at the very back of the South Stand.

When people start if songs they feel more hidden at the back, so you feel less self conscious and so more likely to start off songs. At the front you feel ike the whole gound is watching you. So the only time fans are brave enough to start a single is after a goal or a chance. So the atmosphere is purely pitch led rather than fan led.

Yeah, as I said I find it unbelievable that the club that has spent millions on a new stadium and would then re-use a couple of dozen old leaflets from years ago after crossing out Goodison Park

I sit in the East lower. The last three home games I've seen these leaflets dotted around. A bloke who sits near me had one on Saturday, he's actually pretty quiet during the game, maybe the odd bit of "industrial language" but certainly not someone who's out of his seat every couple of minutes ranting and raving about this and that...he told me he was going to speak to a steward after the game about it so I'll have to find out what they said. I used to sit in the paddock which on its day could be a hostile place for any opposition player on that side of the pitch (and if we're being honest perhaps sometimes our own players) and was hoping it would be a similar kind of atmosphere in the lower east, but it couldn't be further removed. Of course there's boundaries you shouldn't cross when it comes to language and behavior at the game but while there's a lot to like about the new stadium it all feels rather sterile now compared to what I was used to.

I will be honest. The suppression of people, especially, working class males is going too far. Football is about passion, the odd [Poor language removed] in hell ref or similar is offensive only to those who wish to be offended. I don't mean constant foul mouthed rants

I saw a load of these in the East Stand on Saturday, but didn't clock what they were. I was hoping to have one on my seat cos I thought they might be beer vouchers, or free scratchcards for the best fans. I was quite disappointed when my seat was bare.

It is possibly the stupidest stunt this club has ever come up with. The shaming of fans who might or might not have sworn at a football match is utterly ridiculous. Mind you, I'd have seen mine as a badge of honour and probably stuck it on my forehead.

I'm going to make a point of swearing loudly and clearly next game to see if I can get myself a yellow warning sticker. In fact, I think we should all shout "F*** OFF" for 60 seconds during the 4th minute of the Newcastle game (4th minute for 4 letter words, ya get it?)

I think it's a bit much. But if the club (and football in general) want to stamp out on swearing (free speech?) then they should start with the millionaires on the pitch......or is their passion/lack of any se;lf control somehow greater than ours?

IF this is absolutely legit and the only thing these guys have done wrong is swear then its a direct attack from the club on the fans. Football is a passionate sport and brings out both the best and worst in us at times. I hardly ever swear away from the match (most people who've never watched a game with me or discussed the match, have never heard me swear) but while I'm at the match I freely admit that I use some pretty colorful language. If that's now deemed unacceptable then the owners should just outright say so. Admit that fans like me are no longer what the club, and football as a whole, wants. I'll take my passionate support, love for the club, and my money elsewhere, where it can be appreciated if that's the case. Good luck to the sport when in the years to come it dawns on them that they've driven away their core coustmer base and that the new one, isn't quite as willing to pay the outrageous prices and stay blindly loyal to their clubs, no matter how dire the situation, like we currently do.

Don’t let it get to you mate, if you’ve not been behaving poorly, there’s no reason to worry.
They’re bound to have put a few on the wrong seats.

Is the club purposely trying to kill the atmosphere at Evertons home games?
If so for what end?
Is the stadium for Everton and its fans any more?
Driving past Stanley Park and seeing the massive G O O D I S O N on top of park end stand is what it's all about.
Not a "stunning" event arena where you wouldn't know who played there if you didn't know the crest on the wall.
Mundane outside and efforts to make it more mundane inside.
