I think the days of 10’s in the mould of Ozil/James are gone tbh (if that’s the type you’re talking about)

The modern 10 often tends to lead the press and has proficient defensive skills.

The days of luxury players seem to be coming to an end.

Football is dying a slow death imo

Used to have tricky wingers back in the 60-80s and even the 90’s

Then the number 10 was the maverick type

James , requelme , Ronaldinho , zidane and may more

Nowadays the wingers are inverted and boring , number 10’s are defensive

The players are fitter but it’s very boring compared to the 90’s and early 2000’s

Gomes at Wolves is a better/more exciting midfielder than Andre there, but I wonder if Andre’s actually the one we really need? A proper 6 to play between the defence and our box to boxers. Would give us more cover and competition in defensive midfield, when most of our midfielders are currently natural 8s.

I find it really interesting that one of Moyes’s first priorities last summer was apparently Pahinha who went on loan to Spurs, but - as with Tete - when we missed out, we didn’t go for any like for like replacement. It’s not hard to imagine that that’s still the type of player he wants to add to the squad - maybe even still the exact player!

Not sure if Andre is 'that' good. Gomes has also played at 6 last season.

Should this squad get us into Europe then I think Moyes will be fairly loyal to them and want to give them a crack. To that extent Gana and Keen get renewed for another year. Grealish a second loan year. If Moyes lets anyone go I think it would be Patterson, Alcaraz, Dibling, Aznou, (and George) but thats about all. Coleman to join coaching staff, surely.
Which would leave us still desperately short at both fullback slots, an attacking midfielder as cover for KDH, and a goalscorer.
which ones he gets is open for debate but hopefully he wont waste money on positions we dont need just because players are available.

Oh he is, and he is probably more attainable than Gomes who will likely go to a CL club. Andre is a good blend of recovery, defending and being able to start an attack. His touch/pass maps are very impressive cover much of the pitch.
If only we could find a player who is a combination of both Andre and Gomes. Wait, I have an idea.....

At what age do they stop developing, out of interest?

Saw you in another thread imply that someone was done at 24?

I dont think so buddy.

Unless you mean Merlin Rohl who I was saying wasnt a "young" player at 24 (and injury prone) with barely any career appearances.

Or Garner who turned 25 and so cant win "young player of the year" ironically for under 24s apparently

Oh the caveats are coming out now.

You used the fact that he was 24 to imply that he was not worth investing in.

So is 23 the cut off point?

What "caveats" are you referring to? I assume these must be the same (proven to be correct) points I made since he was initially linked:

Injury prone & Not played many games in a top league for his age

He was signed at 23 in case you didnt know.

Only someone either extremely positive or extremely stupid would sign a player at 23 with so many injuries and little game time in the bundesliga.

I'm unsure as to the nature of your point, are you saying Rohl is a good investment and if so would you consider yourself to be:

A: Extremely positive
B: Extremely stupid

See below for the posts you didnt bother to reference appropriately and continue the same points I've made since he was linked in the first place.

He's 24 in July and highly injury prone with 1 good game.

No idea why he was signed and no idea why we'd keep him.

Well YES with the limited number of career games and amount of injuries he'll have had by 24 it is an "oh no".

I’d be suprised if we didn’t ask about Delap, he seems nailed on to move away from Chelsea and we had a bid for him last year that he apparently considered

Issue is, Chelsea are muppets and probably want more than the 30million they spent last time. Don’t think there’s a chance any club coughs that up. You don’t get to have a stinker season (that everyone predicted) and then demand a profit.

I’d have a crocked Delap over Barry in a heartbeat. Can’t wait until we sell him, adieu!
