Summer Transfer Window - Credible Rumours Only Please

Scott Dann; good defender, proved himself as capable in the Premier League and a tall mountain in the prime of his career. But he's not good enough for a team that believe we should be challenging in the top 7 or 8.

Everyone keeps hammering on about us not showing ambition in the transfer market, but then they're willing to settle for Crystal Palace's POTY. I think he's good, but i'd much rather we spent the 10m on a defender that will improve the starting XI.

And POTY means nothing at a club, Heitinga was ours one year, the following year he was awful!

But we're not going to get a defender who improves the starting XI - as Stones and Jags are the first-choice pairing, and so they should be.

Why not?

Why buy players who have no chance of displacing the current XI? You want players that are good enough to push into the starting line up otherwise what's the damn point of it all!?

Of course that's the point - but I don't think Martinez is looking for a defender who is better than what we've already got because they would be incredibly expensive. Someone of Dann's ilk would be a good signing I think - for the right price, obviously - I wouldn't want us to pay more than £6mil for him really, but I do think he's a good defender.

A bit like when Heitinga was earning top whack despite having no chance of being picked ahead of Jagielka or Distin when they were fit.

Complete non sequitur; take a deep breath or two and return tomorrow for more rumors and links.

The quoted price is £8m-£10m+ which is an insane price tag for him. The biggest problem is why would Palace sell him for £6m? This is not gong to happen.

That's what scouts are for mate. Jagielka, Baines, Coleman, Stones all cost less than the money being quoted for Dann.

Thats like saying whats the point in having more than 18 players in a squad every season.

Is it?

Really like Dann but I think Ogbonna's more what we need. Strong, fast and can use the ball well. Would be a brilliant improvement on Distin.

They probably don't want to, any more than I imagine we want to sell Mirallas.

But keeping an unhappy player is generally not a great idea and it appears Dann and his family have been keen to return to Liverpool for at least a year.

I suspect Mr Dann will surprise you if he signs mate, I was a bit suspect myself, but doing some digging, hes been worshipped by the fans at most clubs hes been at, hes a big powerful lad who knows how to defend, bags of premiership experience and in his prime.

Cant go around picking up John Stones for 3m, it simply doesnt happen everyday, players like Stones are special, special players.

Is it really that insane? He was their best player last season, why would they want to lose their best player without decent compensation? Jags was about the same age when arsenal came in for him at £10m. We all thought they were being cheeky *******. Prices have gone up since.

Honestly would take Dann over Van Dijk.

Van Dijk is playing in the best team, with hardly any competition, in a mediocre league, of course he will get experience playing in Europe. That's what UEFA gives to a lot of league winners.

Same thing with players from Malmö FF from Sweden, they got to play in the group stages in the Champions League. Mainly because of a last minute gift by RedBull Salzburg(who then went on to boss Celtic's group in the Europa League). Would they slot into a PL team though? No.

Some of you might think Van Dijk looks boss, but from what I've seen I've not been impressed. And definitely not for the rumoured price.
