Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I don't especially mind players like Coufal on a free transfer if it was a two year deal and if money will be spent elsewhere, particularly on adding pace and goals.

We won't be able to fix every problem in the summer and have to prioritise where the money is spent. I'd prefer though to be buying potential at a low fee and see where that gets us.

Coufal is the type of guy you get on deadline day if Plan A, B, and C have fallen through, and you have no money leftover. That doesnt mean it's always a bad thing but we do have to focus on buying players that we can either get 5-10 years value from and/or will make us profit if we have to sell.

Let's not forget Angus Kinnear is only in the door. The entire structure needs changing in a matter of weeks, the Scouts network is undergoing a transformation, bit worrying that this all started before Kinnear was even in the building. Agents will be pushing absolute scrap our way and hopefully we don't fall for it again..... Moyes will likely have a big say in transfers. Going back during his first spell that normally took ages for him to give the green light. I doubt we have even the slightest idea who we signing yet, nevermind these links which are utter nonsense.

We have Garner and Timmy who are the same mould of Longstaff/Brown hill etc., with Armstrong to come back into the squad. We need to be making more instant top quality signings rather than just squad filler.
Ideally yes but it all depends on the budget doesn't it. We're potentially losing 7/8 players from the first team squad for nothing (which plenty of people are happy with in the main) but replacing them with instant top quality isn't going to be easy unless we have a huge amount of cash. Realistically, there are probably going to be a few uninspiring signings both due to the budget and to our current standing and the level of improvement required.

We need a good one though, someone better than we already have. Imo.
I'm not saying he's brilliant but you would probably trust him to do a decent job for 30+ Premier league matches next year. Not sure you could say the same about Armstrong or Irebougnam.

Gana is another year older and Garner has been hit and miss. So i think we need someone else in there.

I'd love it to be someone younger and better but I'd be willing to take him as a safe squad player if we balanced it with higher risk/reward purchases elsewhere.

I think it was the Chelsea press conference where Moyes said he was beginning to firm up his ideas of who we would go for, words to that effect anyway.

We have lost Thelwell and Purdy, supposedly appointing Hammond but IIRC there were going to be other roles that still need filling as part of the transfer committee that would report to Kinnear.

It's both confusing and concerning at this stage but at least Kinnear is here now. The other people need to be appointed asap, I think the aim was to have them in by Kinnears original start date of June 1. That is very late in the day unless they have been working on the QT already which I expect they have.

To a large extent I think the dye is cast now for this summer and we just have to hope that Moyes and Kinnear between them and with the help of any others, can get it right.

I disagree. There are still bargains to find in European football for the same price that someone like Longstaff will cost and will be that instant first team quality, with potential to boot.

Longstaff would be strong signing for Everton
It’s understandable that Newcastle want to cash in on Longstaff at this stage and the fee of £12m is something that TFG’s investment will be able to deal with.
I wouldn't mind Longstaff for £

12m. We definitely need another midfielder.
Longstaff would be an atrocious signing for that price.
Given that we have so many out of contract players and gaps in the squad and presumably a limited budget we are bound to see some free transfers and players coming in on relatively modest fees that many fans will see as uninspiring.

If that means the majority of our spend is on more exciting but fewer signings like a quality centre forward and a right sided attacker I can live with that.

There are, undoubtedly, although it's clearly a lot easier said than done, otherwise every team would be doing it perfectly and that very much isn't the case. There was also a reason why only part of the post was highlighted though. I'm not talking specifically about Longstaff, more about the idea of 'instant top quality signings'. As I said, it's not going to be easy to bring in 7/8 players who are 'instant top quality', partly because it will cost a lot and partly because we're not a very attractive proposition to players in that bracket.

I don't mind a free transfer or budget deal if it's the right player. I just disagree that CM is the place we need it in.
