Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

…it really doesn’t help expose young players who are not good enough just because they’re young. The point would be better made if you name the young players you feel should be involved.
I'd be tempted to give Reece Welch some minutes, likewise Roman Dixon. We're going to be very thin across the backline with Tarkowski, Branthwaite and Coleman crocked and our squad is going to look very different in the summer so it's a good opportunity to take a look at some players in a real, properly competitive match. I'd also like to see Chermiti get a run out ahead of DCL, if Beto comes off later in the match.

….despite his size, what I’ve seen of Reece Welch is how uncompetitive and easily bullied he is in games. I really liked him in that first FA Youth Cup run but been so disappointed in him since. I hoped he’d be the real deal but he’s really struggled for game time on loan in Division 2 and in Belgium. Regular U21 watchers have been critical of Dixon’s performances at that level.

I suppose you never know.

I’d think one or two below U21s have a chance, most notably Braiden Graham but I’m not sure playing him in a game at Newcastle in a weakened team will aid his development (I thought he might have got a cameo off the bench before the end of the season but Sunday just looks the wrong game for that).

No problem giving Patterson and Chermiti game time.

So far the decisions on who has left are right…we have not caved in to wage demands for players whose attributes have diminished.

Possibly a reason CL wife is venting on Social media.

To let young/Doucoure got so far…says to me others will go & perhaps there is confidence that we have money/wages to replace them

If she's venting, she needs to vent at Dom's agent..last summer there was a contract on the table but they advised him to reject it because they could get him a move,So it's hard luck really.

Am pretty sure he bombed that agency off over the winter.

We have to play the best available team instead of letting Newcastle get CL. The youth players you have mentioned have not shown they are good enough for PL football for now.

I'm not sure we do have to play our best team. Newcastle's season is none of my concern, yes I'd rather they didn't qualify for the Champions League but if they don't it'll likely be Forest or Chelsea in their place which is no better, really. With a few of our under age players they are getting to an age where they either need to be around the first team squad or let go. The weekend is a good opportunity to see which is best.

They aren’t good enough. Watching Dixon and Welch get legged around by some very good Newcastle players isn’t going to help anyone.

Then we should release them.
Welch has a contract to 2026 so he'll be loaned out next season I imagine. Aled Thomas is our best youth centre back. Dixon is a tough one, his athletism is impressive but his defensive abilities are nowhere near good enough and he'd get rinsed by either Gordon or Barnes. I think again he'll be loaned out and maybe he still has a chance of making it at the club but I think like Welch he'll most likely be released next summer

Re: Dixon - Could we make a winger out of him?

His pace is some weapon.

And we have a team that is absolutely crying out for pace
