Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Is it really true that good players become more affordable late on? I honestly think it's the opposite

It's only unwanted players who become more affordable or available for loan.
All depends on the situation id imagine with a club say in Ligue 1 that has financial issues hit them with a sizable take it or leave it offer they'll probably receptive even if it puts them at a disadvantage on the pitch

Tried to tell y'all we should have kept Thelwell and Purdy. At least for this summer given we had 15 players out of contract.

The DOF model wasn't the problem.

The problem was Moshiri ignored any DOF.

Then the problem was we had a DOF who couldnt spend in any window until we made a set profit, an even some windows what we could spend had to be £0 upfront. To join point deduction, circus FC. We'd have had Minteh, Kudus etc otherwise.

TFG have tried to do too much, too soon. They've made changes for changes sake.

All that said, I figure they've intentionally sacrificed having players in because they see value at the arse end of the window. If we've jibbed Fellows and co, and we see the likes of Fofana come in - then fair enough.

Surely, we have a list of players pending, and if they dont come off they'll work down the list. Top players, the type who really improve us aren't going to be in a rush to join. If the teams they want to join don't take them, then perhaps we have a chance.

Twitchy arse, time.
Feels extremely high risk given our squad depth. If it pays off with a Fofana or equivalent then brilliant but what is to say our back ups won't be snapped up in the meantime.

That's all on the assumption there is some kind of strategy and they're not just randomly calling clubs asking if they've got a right winger spare.

Twitchy arse time indeed.

The thelwell/purdy stuff is like when a player gets injured and magically gets better through being out.

The football world showed you how highly rated they are by them having to settle for Rangers. Who are themselves having a honking start to the season.

There's zero evidence to suggest they would be doing any better and quite a lot to suggest it'd be more of the same

I don't think so.

To prove it's not just retrospective either, I've been saying it since before last season finished. As an example, in April;

For the past couple of years, I've shared my view that this summer - a summer under new owners at Bramley Moore, will be our most important in Premier League era.

An opportunity for a rebuild, and lightning bolt through the club.

But I'm struggling to understand who will be responsible for that recruitment.

As in, ultimately responsible.

Is it TFG centralised structure/wider hierarchy?

Or is it localised?

Is it Moyes?

Why is a CEO, bringing in a transfer consultant with him from Leeds? The very fact press are reporting it's not a direct replacement for Thelwell says a lot.

So far, I'm thinking it's my own lack of understanding, but it would be nice to have a clearer picture soon on who is making the decisions on which footballers are coming in.

If you've an unprecedented rebuild on your hands - don't sack your entire recruitment setup who had done a very admirable job, and wait for new people to arrive, hoping they gel.

That's not to say Thelwell was the long term answer, but there's a time and a place for changes. It felt disjointed, and the end result is showing that so far.

Hindsight is 20/20. But yes, keeping them on for another few months seems like a decent idea in retrospect. Hell, the incoming transfer/ managerial structure could have been working somewhat alongside them during this period to make the transition less jarring.

Having said that, from where I am sitting, the outgoing team progressed things reasonably within their constraints and surely they did some groundwork on potential transfers? You can bet your bottom dollar however the excuse of a bad window will be lumped on the previous team - that excuse is as old as long as replacing people in jobs has been happening.

Grrr Everton.

You look at the state of Everton and also situations like Isak at Newcastle.

The window should close before the season starts.

Anyone know the reason why it doesn’t?
Because it would put us at a disadvantage against clubs in europe...I think we tried that once, but didn't really work well and the big clubs were quickly to complain to the pl. For us it would make no difference, we are just terribly inefficient with everything to do with transfers in general.

Discussed/mentioned that a lot this summer, like;

Is it better to have a perhaps half hearted, but much better player here using us as a stepping stone in August (a Fofana), or someone down the list in July who is over the moon to be here (Maybe Fellows)?

For me, it's still this;

To be fair, I understand more the people losing their composure than I do the people claiming we've got this/acting like Man Utd fans were with INEOS.

I've no confidence in Everton's new recruitment team until they give a reason to be.

So far, they've failed to bring in players to give adequate pre-season.

Let's see where we are come the first game of the season.

... just updated to "Let's see where we are come 1st September"

But we've again started the season, under prepared. As bad as I can ever recall - we've started seasons without a striker before, but to start one without a full back and right winger when you've got money to spend takes some doing.

It is starting to feel like panic station at finch farm...wouldn't want to be the ones asking questions to moyes on Sunday if we lose and if there are no new players by then. I wonder could he actually walk...

It's been repeated time and time again that players prices drop massively towards end of window and loans become available...

Maybe we just have to accept that this is what we have to do?

Prices don’t drop massively though. No evidence of this at all. Clubs get desperate and pay more if anything.

Loans may become available, but even then, we are WAY more likely to end up with a Broja, Josh King, Dele player than a Lukaku.
