Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

It's not even just price, it's opportunity.

As an example. Take Fellaini. We intentionally lashed a last minute club record bid in, knowing full well time was a factor. If we went earlier, he wouldn't have come to Everton.
Lukaku on last day of the window not too dissimilar, albeit a loan, was decided very late on that Chelsea were happy to let him go out on loan rather than stay at the club.

Clubs and players will get itchy at the end of the window. Players want to play and clubs want to get money in/wages off the books/unhappy players out.

I think it can be a smart approach, especially if you’re cash strapped. But our little injury crisis with the left hand side of our defence getting injured in the week before the start of the season is making us look a bit stupid and left us with a makeshift XI for the first couple games of the season.

On that example though, it wasn't really our intent as we wanted Demba Ba. Chelsea said nah but what about Lukaku.

Everton, eh?

The thelwell/purdy stuff is like when a player gets injured and magically gets better through being out.

The football world showed you how highly rated they are by them having to settle for Rangers. Who are themselves having a honking start to the season.

There's zero evidence to suggest they would be doing any better and quite a lot to suggest it'd be more of the same
I tend to agree, in general. But then it is only becoming clear now that half of this new recruitment team haven't even started their jobs yet... In that light, the Friedkins have played fast and loose with our summer.

I am thankful for how that turned out that season…

People still advocating leaving things to the last minute so we can bring in cheap top quality players. Couldn’t make it up.

Well, no.

Just saying something, without addressing any point in doing so, doesn't make it true.

It's this;

I don't think anyone is advocating for it , people are theorizing why the club is adopting the approach unless I missed a particular comment, I think it's reckless myself

... and it's supported by the clubs actually CEO, explaining that's exactly what they're doing.
