Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Its not just the club you know, players we are interested in are dragging their feet, clubs we are talking to are dragging their feet.

It takes 3 to sign a player, we really dont control when it happens, despite what some of you think.

We can control when it doesn’t happen though, if it’s not a ‘yes’ by a certain point, then move on.

I just really don’t think that’s true. Yes Gueye will at times leave his position to go press but I would argue he is very good and intelligent at knowing when to do this.

Think the fact we concede so few goals - only the top 3 teams in the past 2 seasons could better our defensive record - shows there’s probably not a glaring issue with Gueye leaving holes in midfield.

The bigger issue with our midfield is moving the ball forward and our ability to pass the ball about, which we need to get somebody next to Gueye who has the quality to do that. The links to Douglas Luiz make sense.

In my opinion I don’t think Garner is of the quality to be an effective attacking midfielder in the Premier League. He's combative and has decent technique but I just don’t see it with him but would happily be proven wrong.

Id advised you watch gana more closely.

Have you ever watched us and wonder why we take so long to get in the final third but our oppoents seemt to be in our final third in 3 passes?

Look at what ganas doing. He constantly runs out of position, leaves a massive gap in our midfield and the opposition exploit it.

As for defensively we did have the 5 least goas conceded with 44.

But we conceded the 10th most shots in the league last season, with 31 out of the 44 goals coming from open play and a xg of conceded goals being 55. Which would of put us at 8th most goals conceded in the league.

The reason we has such a good defensive record the last few seasons is because of our back line

I think the most likely scenario is the executive team has overestimated our current pull when agreeing targets with Moyes and is getting rebuffed without being ready/able to offer more £ to change one or two minds.

We must be near the point where Moyes just insists they implement whatever his back-up plan is eg Soucek, Brownhill, Coufal (possibly even Harrison heaven help us) or similar all improve the squad and at least a couple would start so go get them today then carry on chasing a whale or two until the window closes.

It isn’t ideal and it would not really move us forward unless we actually land one or two top targets late but Moyes is pragmatic and competitive so he won’t want to mail it in for a relatively favourable first 3 games before the window closes IMO.

I'd agree with that but the drop-down from your prime target to an alternative shouldn't be so great that you have to "settle" to that extent. The process is all wrong if that's the case.

For right back it shouldn't have to come down to Coufal as default, though it well might. All managers have a bias towards players they've worked with before, especially if they've signed them too, and it's a lazy bias.

If that is the case then either the process hasn't provided sufficient good enough options or Moyes only wants the players he likes.

We need 2 right wingers for me....and not 'attackers that CAN play on the right' - But actual right wingers with pace to beat a man.

MCatee is not that player, neither is Fofana...Kubo, Fellows & Harrison are the only right wingers we have been linked with.
Harrison is a left footed left-winger. He only played on the right for us as McNeil/Ndiaye was on the other side and we didn't have another option on the right.

The reason we've had a good defensive record in the last couple of years is mainly because we've set up in a very defensive way and played percentage football to minimise errors. The defenders are decent but the constant repetition (not by you) of 'we have a top class defence it's just the attack' isn't really accurate, if we're trying to attack more we'll concede more because a big part of our record has just been having 10 men behind the ball for half the game.

Re: Harrison - if he was so obvious a signing he’d have been made permanent around the same time Charly was

Fofana/Luiz/Grealish/McAtee - how much longer do we need to give it before moving on? We don’t have the time to spare

Hackney - it’s telling that despite being rated, absolutely zero PL clubs have gone for him
Grealish - if we sign him (which I think we will on loan) it will be at the very last minute due to wage/cost negotiations and mitigation.

Guarantee players we’ve been linked with and have been close to being done will be highjacked by other clubs. Process takes far too long it’s something our club seriously needs to change. No wonder Moyes has been vocal he’s calling them out publicly. Doesn’t look good doing so but guess he’s had enough of it. Other clubs get things done far quicker it’s always been too damn slow with us it needs to change
