I hope this doesn’t happen, because he definitely doesn’t want to be a no 2, he’s not going to be happy here if he signs.

As I said yesterday that’s coming from people close to him, in March I was told he would be prepared to drop down a level to be no1. Yesterday I was more or less told the same thing - that he wants to be a no 1. I realise the journos are saying something else.

I don’t know if we’ve spoken to him or not yet or those close are just giving the above line to me as a stock reply (with the risk of betting and all) and a transfer is on, but I know he was unhappy at Bournemouth being no 2 and actively sought loan moves.

I want back up players who have enough self belief to see themselves as starters. Pickford could easily get a long term injury and I don't want someone with a bench warmer mentality coming in...which leads me neatly back to Keane.

It's a lot of money for a back up keeper. If we pay £5m for him it'll give me some confidence that the budget is significantly bigger than I thought it was.

Maybe but on the other hand £5m for a very capable deputy in a key position is peanuts.

….yep, I didn’t see anything of him last season so I welcome your insight but he’s been a player I’ve always liked.

I think hes always been a player whos characteristics surpassed his playing abilities imo. In a good way.

I just wonder if he still has that mentality to push a team forward that he did at Liverpool because he definitely doesnt have the ability to anymore.

It isn't though really, that's what I'm saying. I'd be happy with it, i'm just saying most teams like us don't pay £5m for a back up keeper, and we never have before. It's a lot of money in a relative sense.

Hackney, McGinn and Gallagher all similar(ish) in profile. High energy box to box.

Probably means we've moved on from McAtee.

I don't mind that profile but I was hoping for a bit more creativity in the middle.

If we do that and then get more of an attacking creator on the right (Kubo?) then I'm less concerned, but if it's energy in the middle and then just pacey winger I worry that makes us a bit one dimensional.

Its fine in theory mate, but realistically that not happening and lets be honest he, the club and we all know it.

Unless we cash in on Jordan or he goes back to Sunderland...........
