Summer transfer window 2023

I'd bring in Matt Doherty on a free to play in the wingback formation we adopted towards the end of the season. Played that role well at Wolves, but struggled in a back four at Spurs. Assuming the 5-3-2 is what Dyche wants to implement, then it's a good squad addition. We'd just need to compliment the formation with a mobile CB who can actually defend!

We played that formation cus we had about 13 fit players and the best ones just happened to fit into that

Hes off to Saudi mate.

Balogun on loan. Need to be all over that IMO.

No chance he's getting game time when they sign Havertz (Jesus, Nketiah, Trossard).
He’s already said he’s not going out on loan again. If he moves it will be a sale and given the likes of inter and Milan are interested, he ain’t stepping foot inside Goodison. Wish we had a chance but we don’t.

Not over joyed by the links to Victor Gyokeres. He's scored 21 and 17 in the last two seasons in the Championship and is 25 years old. Based on the average drop off from coming up to the Premier League would suggest he'd be fortunate to hit 10-12. Better than what we had last year, but we'd have to hope for an outsized contribution.

For reference, some other returns in the Championship recently:
- Neil Maupay - 25 goals for Brentford in 18/19 - hit 10 once in the prem.
- Timmu Pukki - hit 29 and 26 in the Championship and followed it up with 11 in the prem bith times
- Che Adams and Jarrod Bowen both had 22 goals in the Champioship
- Solanke hit 29 in the Championship

IMO, the only type of player we should be looking for in the Championship is someone who is 22 or under, or if there was a striker that is a clearly suited to Dyches style (e.g. big and good in the air).

All to say it would be risky and we need as close to a sure thing as we can get.

Would have kept Coady if that was the plan.

Why you only looking at goals.

It's why I've said before...if it's a sale Arsenal ain't gonna sell him cheap so you're talking £40-50million IMO and Milan or Inter aren't paying that.

Unless another team wants in... he'll be going on loan IMO - whether there's an obligation to buy or something.

Still think it would be worthwhile a punt from Kopite Kev though.

Agree with this. Especially with the fee quoted

Yeah, I’ve got concerns, 25 is quite old to have only really played Championship football and like you say when you look at the general conversion rate from championship to PL he might not bring enough goals. If we were guaranteed a fit DCL I’d say he was an ideal backup / partner for DCL but we know whoever we sign is going to be the main man most of the time.

At the same time you do have guys who step up easily at that sort of age, Toney for example, and no one is guaranteed. But if we do go Gyokeres I’d prefer him to be one of two striking options signed.
