Who better to start the Spine of your new team than the England no.1?

How people can say bite peoples hands off at £60m is beyond me.

Get rid of the dross and setup deals for a CB LB and LW then progress to the next window where hopefully we are in a better position to strengthen again. Otherwise we will become just another Premiership team focusing on survival. I know it could be said that some view us that way but I certainly don't. I want us back to the levels of the early to mid 80s. I want to see Trophies lifted and titles won. I want to see us progress like Athletico Madrid, by gradually piecing together a great side and competing again in a shiney new stadium.

You could literally write up pages of keepers who could do an equal and greater job than him. And it's in noway comparable to the rom situation, top class strikers are in way shorter supply than keepers. Rom was one of the top strikers on the planet and we'd always struggle to replace him

Write it then?

I can think of a fair few who I'd probably say are better than him as it stands, yes.

But, when you take age into account, experience (or lack thereof) in the Prem, longevity, other strengths/weaknesses (i.e. distribution, general flapping) and realistic chance that we could sign them, then we've got one of the very best goalkeepers we can get, if not the best, currently. And there's no need to sell. No pressure to sell. And no reason to not at least double our money if we were to.

I would love to know who you have in mind as a replacement for a third of what we would receive for Pickford, for arguments sake put that at £20 mil.
Obviously not now but For example of a good keeper for decent value, Leno, a much superior keeper with much more experience recently went to Arsenal for under 20 mil.

Pope, meslera, casteels, handanovic, horn, sommer, subosic, lopes, Romero, butland (is equal) , etc etc. Could go on for days

Allison has a much better pedigree

He was a big prospect in Brazil, went to Roma in 2016. Spent all season as back up to Szczesny. Played well in the middle of the season for Roma, especially against Barca IRC - but actually made a fair few howlers as well. By the end of the season he had tailed off and he was pretty poor in the Champions League games against Liverpool.

Looks dead nervous coming for crosses, tries to punch when he should just catch.

He's a quality goalkeeper who has brilliant distribution. He's athletic and has that ability, like Pickford, to spring across the line and get to stuff you wouldn't think he could.

But he's got his flaws and has as many genuinely good seasons as Pickford has. Playing in a team that actually plays football and could defend helps.

Leno is not a superior goalkeeper to Pickford.

He has been abysmal for two years. Bayer Leverkusen fans wanted him sold in 2017. Honestly, the bloke fell off a cliff.

He may come good at Arsenal, but you'll need a better example.

Agree on the experience aspect, and when he was younger he was excellent. But - and @Nymzee may be able to back me up (or disagree, like) - he's been dogger for two seasons.

Why do we always do it. We sign a decent keeper to build a team with, then you get some saying let's sell at £60 Mill. Would the red shi€# sell for that NO.
If we want to have a sniff of the top 6 we have to start building a team.
We sold Lukaku too soon, we need to change, otherwise we will become a west ham or stoke

You've basically just described Pickford
