Nebbiolo

Valuation: £108 million
Ok, he signs another contract at Boro, he's not signed for us (yet). But I like what I've seen from Downing. A natural attacking left-footer would hopefully link up well the Yak, feeding him! He's also young, can pass a ball and seems to have a good work ethic. Additionally, he's British born, which is what Moyes claims to desire.

Also, with our midfield looking as though it might reshape somewhat markedly next year, with the possible loss of Arteta, Carsley and Fernandes, we will be short on solid, talented players.

One drawback might be the fee. After signing another contract at Boro, a large cash outlay might be needed. But, on the other hand, Downing would probably fit well into our pay structure.

Anyone agree, or am I just totally wrong on this one?

I thought Stewart Downing had signed for us when I read the title.

Decent player at the right price I'd take him. 5-6 million.

I know many dont think he is good enough, but i have always been a big fan of Downing and would have been one of my hopes for the summer.

Personaly though i would now be inclined to go for Aron Ramsey at Cardiff if you get a chance have a look at him hes quality waiting to happen, scored a fantastic goal at the weekend and had a stormer. The price/wages would be that much lower too. ok it might take him a while to adjust and develop but at 17 what a prospect.

Still wouldnt mind if we got downing though, hes quality. A part of me though thinks he will end up at Spurs for the money. If your a conspirocy theroist you would think he signed a new contract for the club he has always supported to drive up the price on an agreed move in the summer cue, Newcastle and Spurs!(n)

Watched Bentley again yesterday as Rovers did us a favour and put down the Pompey threat as the Cottagers did the same saturday against City. I'm sure his asking price would be way more than we could afford but he seems to get better each and every week. I would like to have him over Downing personally. But I'm hearing the red lot have him and Gareth Barry on their radar. Cheeky buggers.

yeah i think would be a decent signing , never used to rate him but now i think he has proved himself at an average side like, would be good to av him wide left too and like some have said feeding the yak and hopefully aj.

If it was me I'd nearly be inclined to spend my whole wad of cash on him just to pip Onion head. Bentley would set up Cahill and Yak and give them excellent service no telling how many goals they would score. Hope this Ramsey kid from Cardiff is a poor man Bentley I could live with that.

Downing Schmowning.

Rather Gamst anyday. Even Krankajaer at Pompey.

Love to have Barry but he'll go top four and it isnt it sad to see any loyalty, even from Barry who's served Villa so well over the years.

He'd rather trade in his soul for a place on the bench.

and Bentley! Dust off the checkbook there Kenwright my old mukka.

I'm with you Macca on both counts beside which Boro would want more for the injury prone Downing than they did for the Yak

That would be a big coup and state our intentions big time if we snazzed Bentley. I think the next 3-4 years in his career he'll get better and better. Downing aint no Giggs.

Spurs already bid 6M for Downing and was rejected twice. We may have to go as high as 10M and he isn't worth that.

I'd take Kranjkier (can't spell) from Pompey over him in a heartbeat.

Bentley is probably going to the [Poor language removed].

I would like us to get Bentley but I think he'll end up at Newcastle or Spuds who will both be throwing money about like confetti shoving up market prices, Sunderland are hoping to spend as much as £80 mil made up of loans ffs. The [Poor language removed] already have their heads in a monetary noose so any more spending will only make matters worse, they must sell before buying.

I get the funny feeling lots of clubs will be putting their heads in financial nooses this summer, we must be be wary of what will happen not just on the football field but also on the Stock Exchange
