Never suggested for a moment that we should have battered them, but if we have any real aspirations of Europe next season who shouldn't be losing this type of game and especially in the way we did,how many chances did we create? A point is the very least we should have got from what will never be more than a mid-table outfit.I didnt take west ham as a given last night. Not even close.
Their fixture list at the start of the season i would have put them in the bottom 3. They're not and it says a lot that they're decent.
That we have battered them in years gone by at Goodison counts for nothing.
In fact i dont see many if any easy games these days.
So elation when we win and despare when we lose is in some way odd?The problem is that just like Everton generally doesn't do consistency - other than to stay in the top division, many Evertonians don't do balance. If we win three or four games, people get carried away and silly talk of Champions League qualification rears its head. Positivity and optimism is fine, but what we see here isn't that: it's a needy demand to be "taken seriously" by the media and by more circumspect, dare I say it, realistic people. Some of the hubris on here before the West Ham game was instructive. A sense of entitlement. By the same token, if we lose a few we are immediately plunged into relegation despair where a world-class manager - the best we could ever hope to get - is pilloried and dismissed as an imposter. The truth, of course, is in between, if people want to see it. We don't have the depth to seriously contend for Champions League. A good run or two could get us close, especially as many leading clubs are in transition, but much depends on whether the club backs the manager in the window. Without those reinforcements, we could make a push for the Europa League or fall away into mid-table.
I agree with the opinion that many people get too negative. There's been some crazy talk about Carlo not being up to it, for example. But the optimists also need to get a grip after a few wins. We're not world-beaters and pretending we are wilfully ignores the paucity of genuine quality and staying power in the mediocre squad we have. Shouting down the doubters simply turns an optimist into a fantasist. We have an inconsistent group of players, some of whom are very good, some of whom are not up to it, and many of whom are simply nondescript. We're upper mid-table by definition. Anything else is down to the brilliance of the manager and the backing of the club.
So many of our supporters are boring and negative and just can't wait for a reason to moan.
They don't want to suffer the journey. They want immediate consistency and trophies from Carlo.
Last night was really disappointing but we have important players to come soon back that will make a big difference.
We will also see a lot of the dross leave this summer at the latest and some further signings supported by Carlo.
If I see crap, I'll call it crapOne loss and all the closet kopites and football geniuses are out in force saying we’re a shambles and we’ll never get top 4, and anyone who believed we could do it is deluded and below them in the football knowledge stakes. It’s so painfully predictable and it happens every time there’s a blip.
Twitter is full of them, people trying to say the most depressing things possible to seem the superior bloo.
Bore off and go and support Tranmere.
It's one extreme to the other. I don't experience "elation" when we beat Sheffield United. Pleasure, satisfaction, contentedness, yes. I didn't experience "despair" when we lost to West Ham. Disappointment, frustration, and annoyance was more where I was with that.So elation when we win and despare when we lose is in some way odd?
If that spawny goal does not go in we would have took a draw after the run we have had and moved on. But as it is its bleach central as usual after any defeat.
We are doing well overall, Everton are the least of our worries at the moment.
QuiteWe are a very reactive fanbase who ignore the whole picture at times. We played crap and lost we move on.
We all have different ways to express our emotions. Wish I didn't feel like I do when we lose, but I do. And as odd to you as it might seem after a win I'm on a high until the next game. Everton are in my blood, and there's no getting away from it.It's one extreme to the other. I don't experience "elation" when we beat Sheffield United. Pleasure, satisfaction, contentedness, yes. Win a big cup tie or the derby, that's worthy of elation. We don't do much of that, though. That's because we're a pretty ordinary side that's a work-in-progress. Funnily enough, Everton has rarely been about elation and despair over the last 25 years. We've mainly been a long, bleak nothingness, emptying fans of genuine emotion: always in the top division, never truly threatening to do anything of much long-lasting significance.

Funny enough am only interested in us winning. If I wanted to be entertained I'd watch something else. Never quite understood the need to be entertained at a football match. We have a surprising number of points, and have opportunities to qualify for Europe. This is positive. The negative is that we have received far more points than expected, and that this agrees quite well with what we see of the team's performance. In addition, we play an incredibly boring football, and the entertainment factor is quite low.
