Stop Trying to be Edgy

Proper Moyesball wasn’t it. Defended very well and kept a good shape all game. The kind of tactic we deployed against Chelsea.
The issue is we played Moyesball right back at them. And also right back at Sheffield United. We should be capable of more even with the injuries.

One loss and all the closet kopites and football geniuses are out in force saying we’re a shambles and we’ll never get top 4, and anyone who believed we could do it is deluded and below them in the football knowledge stakes. It’s so painfully predictable and it happens every time there’s a blip.

Twitter is full of them, people trying to say the most depressing things possible to seem the superior bloo.

Bore off and go and support Tranmere.

Need to swerve Twitter laaa.

Did we? We limited them to hopeful pop shots and Keane cleared everything that came into the box the same as Ogbonna. They didn’t look any more like scoring than we did yesterday, it just felt like a close game because as an Everton fan, you’re expecting us to concede every time the opposition have the ball.

That’s not to say we played well yesterday, but West Ham stuck to their plan and didn’t allow us anything in the final third.

Both teams played cautious it was always going to end up being a 1-0 to either side if not a draw.

Dont think either team deserved the win and neither defended particularly great as most of the game was sideways and back passing imo.

Concerned cos we sit in 5th, 4 points off the top.

Could and will never be me.
Well yes it obviously will not because you're still in the mindset that past results of football matches are useful indicators of future results and it just isn't always like that. Yes City in 18/19 blowing the doors off a team 6-0 meant they'd probably win a lot of games but us beating Chelsea 1-0 isn't the same thing is it?

It's possible to be both happy with where we are and honest about our prospects of keeping that spot.

I'm sure I said after the derby that if we kept playing how we were to that point we could win the league with luck and that top four was very achievable. I'm not being negative just for the hell of it.

We haven't dominated a game for 90 minutes and won since October 3rd. It isn't edgy to be concerned right now. It is realistic.
What are you concerned about? That we might not win the league? That we might not finish in the top four? That we might not get to have the thrill of a relegation battle?

We have a deeply ordinary, albeit expensive, squad. Until Carlo has his own players in the vast majority of positions, we are going to be a rollercoaster. We are fifth, a few points off the top. I'm delighted with that in twelve months. It's not so long ago that Marco Silva was looking handsomely haunted as we were beaten at Millwall. Go back slightly longer and Big Sam was strutting his ample stuff at Goodison after Ronald Koeman had overseen a shambolic Number Tens convention when he clearly thought Seven of Nine was going to show up but didn't.

We've been a circus for years and you are suddenly concerned when Carlo Ancelotti and James Rodriguez rock up? Sheesh.

On the other hand, we are not going to supplant Liverpool as the top side in the country after a few narrow wins. But there is undoubted progress from this time next year. With the right financial backing, that should continue as, for the first time in 25 years we have a manager who knows how to win stuff.

I think we can make top four if we play better. So that would be my concern. That we are still in position if we play better but we need to actively attempt to play better and to my eyes we seem to be ok with what we are doing now. And I don't think that will get it done.

So your saying if we play better we win more games?

Jesus mate, this is honestly ground breaking stuff, have you told Carlo this? This could really make a difference.
