We haven't dominated a game for 90 minutes and won since October 3rd. It isn't edgy to be concerned right now. It is realistic.
What are you concerned about? That we might not win the league? That we might not finish in the top four? That we might not get to have the thrill of a relegation battle?
We have a deeply ordinary, albeit expensive, squad. Until Carlo has his own players in the vast majority of positions, we are going to be a rollercoaster. We are fifth, a few points off the top. I'm delighted with that in twelve months. It's not so long ago that Marco Silva was looking handsomely haunted as we were beaten at Millwall. Go back slightly longer and Big Sam was strutting his ample stuff at Goodison after Ronald Koeman had overseen a shambolic Number Tens convention when he clearly thought Seven of Nine was going to show up but didn't.
We've been a circus for years and you are suddenly concerned when Carlo Ancelotti and James Rodriguez rock up? Sheesh.
On the other hand, we are not going to supplant Liverpool as the top side in the country after a few narrow wins. But there is undoubted progress from this time next year. With the right financial backing, that should continue as, for the first time in 25 years we have a manager who knows how to win stuff.
