Stones tells Everton he wants Man City transfer

In 2 years time, today's 50 million will be worth about half what it is now.
I actually think this is the threshold now. When you see players for 15 million who are worth 5 and 25 million bids for 10 million strikers then the market is now at its peak. I can't see any more significant money coming into the game anytime soon, not like it has done this year so to speak.
30 million pound bids for average players isn't sustainable i don't think .

of course he was.

Jesus we had a 21 year old defender as our first choice and out of form. Let's be honest here, it is ridiculous that he was ever first choice guaranteed for us. Involved sure, and kept in the team when he was playing well but of course a 21 year old is going to be somewhat of a liability. He had nowhere to hide when things didn't go well, no comfort blanket where he could learn from his mistakes. It was just back out there the next week and told to literally 'kepp doing what you are doing'.

and people wonder why he wants to leave us so much apparently! he should be learning his trade now not being the first defender on the team sheet no matter what.

Fully agree, He is the same age as Browning, who hasn't even began his career at Everton yet and still spoke of, as one for the future, yet Stones is meant to be the finished article already.

Last season was probably a massive learning experience for Stones and one that will make him a even better player. Early on in the season, the game was too easy for him at times, then he made mistakes, as did all the defenders, and we don't actually know what Martinez was telling him to do.Was he telling him to get rid or keep the ball and play out at all costs. The end of the season he looked better and the comeback in the semi final was down to the fact he stepped out of defence and provided all the impetus to get forward, he lifted the tempo.

If he goes, I hope he has a good career and become the best in the country, I've never heard him say a bad word about Everton or the club, like others do to get a move. He's spoke to the club and requested a move, which is what your actually meant to do, so I wish him all the best.

How is pep one of the best he's walked into 2 sides who were flying in leagues that were virtually wrapped up before a ball is kicked. ..welcome to the real world pep and good luck with that one.

How was La Liga 'virtually wrapped up'?

What he did was Barca was immense, he re-ignited and progressed a style that then also helped the Spanish national side become one of the most successful international teams ever...

He then went and reproduced and progressed it again at Bayern. Yes the league may have been easier, and he didn't manage the CL, but he evolved them as a side...

He's certainly one of the best managers in world football. Easily.

53m says he will also have no place to hide when he joins City. When he joins them, he's joining them as their number one defender and likely with a view to becoming their captain in a few years. Their fans will expect absolutely everything from him, as will the world's media. Every mistake will be scrutinised 10x more than it was at Everton and he'll have to find a way to deal with it and get back onto the field the next game and put it behind him, which he wasn't able to do with us.

Stones was more than good enough to be a guaranteed first team starter mate, that's why he was.

He hit a rocky patch of form (five months after the Chelsea debacle) and people jumped on the 'he's crap', 'it's his ego' bandwagon. It's utterly pathetic.

He'll be a big miss when he goes (presuming it happens), but I'm confident we'll use the money wisely and get a replacement in. Personally I wish Stones all the best and would like to see him fulfil his potential.

Agree with Ash on this.

I suppose it remains to be seen, but I can't see this madness growing as much as it has in the last few years.

The next big step for the PL will be the 39th game, probably in the USA and then probably to Asia and the Middle East after that. I can see more stupid bids for average players on the horizon, obviously, but I imagine it'll balance out soon enough.

I think you will see a lot of more standard deals even by the end of this window. That may be the reason we are waiting. Let the crazies go first.

See you are looking at it the wrong way.

Just because they are spending 50 million on signing stones does not mean they intend to make him first choice, actually the real reason is miles away.

They are paying 50 million to acquire the signing of the best english defender for the next 10 years. They aren't buying the player now, they are buying the player he will be. Same as with raheem, they are buying potential and making sure that potential belongs to city. So in 3-4 years time when he kicks on and becomes the player we know he can be, it will be in city's colours rather than chelsea or united's.
