When does his contract expire?

June 2016. I've been told he is one of our top earners on about 73k a week. Which makes sense considering he only left for Spurs as we wouldn't pay him what Arteta was getting paid at the time. I don't think he reduced the wages that he was getting at Tottenham all that much when he returned to Everton.

He was a quality player, streets ahead of Cleverley etc.

If he gets fit and stays fit and contributes between now and the end of the season to a few wins or points gained, then I would have no problem with giving him a one year extension. Decent player to have in the squad. Until we have a youngster on lower wages with some of his skillset that will sit on the bench or accept sometimes not being on the bench, I think he is okay to keep.

However, if he comes back and gets another injury, even for a short time, I think it would be best to let the contract run out and he will go have his swansong under humongous Sam at Sundlund.

I think he was over rated if anything.

He was a very good player and if he was fit now and back like he was at his peak I'd love him in our team however some of our fans got carried away with him.

Apart from the occasional good few months he has always lacked an end product and didn't create or score enough for the type of player he was.

He did bring 'something' to the team that's difficult to explain or find in another player though.

He assisted the assister. A remember a whole thread devoted to this no end product argument. He was our most talented and influential player of the last five years and most of Baines' assists were as a result of link-up play with Pienaar. Best techique of any player I've seen at Everton.

Our most influential player in the last 5 years? He's been injured for the vast majority of the last 2 of them. And he was at Spurs for a year of it.

This argument is going to kick off again here but Baines has just carried on getting assists at exactly the same rate whether Piennar is there or not.

It's doing Baines a massive disservice to say it was down to Piennar, Baines is just a good player and if anything, he made Piennar not the other way around.

Would Piennar have got the same adulation with Browning behind him, I doubt it very much.

Piennar struggled massively at Spurs and couldn't get his game, as many of us thought he might. Whilst his stats speak for themselves, bar the odd good month or 2 occasionally, his goalscoring and assist stats are quite poor for someone as talented as he is, I don't think that can really be disputed.

It's not just here, it's been the same for South Africa or when he was playing in Germany or Holland.

He does bring something to the team and is very easy on the eye but like a few of ours under Moyes, the likes of Piennar, Osman, etc, they just lack something that keeps out the top bracket and always will do.

Players like Mirallas, Barkley, Delefeou, Lukaku, they just have it, imo.

Sorry but Mirallas hasn't done half of what Pienaar has for Everton. Players like Mirallas and Deulofeu need a Pienaar in the side to allow them to play because as we have seen countless times, when the midfield can't give them the right type of ball they are left isolated and just float through games.

The modern fan is just obsessed with goals. Pienaar was a brilliant player for us and in his peak was a grade above most of the attacking players in the current squad. We now have a lot of players who can provide good moments. Lukaku, Deulofeu, Mirallas, Barkley, they can all win a game by themselves but only Barkley on occasion can control one. Pienaar was brilliant for getting the side playing and creating space for others, he controlled a lot of what happened on the pitch. When you add another player like Arteta to that you get a team who played on the front foot confidently. This current team would benefit so much from a young Pienaar, the amount of space he'd make for Barkley would be great.

Wish we could find a young version of Stevie P....imagine him in this team...phwoar !

Agreed mate and exactly the type of player we need. We have every other version of winger now, just need another little Pienaar.

Top player and I for one hope he gets fit again and plays a part this season. Even of its just 15+ games, if he's in the side I would say that increases our chance of winning those 15+ games.

Just find the total lack of mention of this guy by the club a bit strange. I can kind of understand it with Hibbert, who has also 'disappeared' but the lack of updates on Steve P is weird ...to me anyway
