Steven Pienaar

The fact that our left back was our most creative player is a very poor and negative reflection on Everton in that period.

Pienaar got around 50 assist and 25 goals, in around 250 games for Everton.

He was decent and at times pretty good, but lets not go over-board.
Like I said before, what on earth have you been expecting from Everton over the past few decades. We've over performed, there was absolutely no way we could have competed with the big boys during this time

Pienaar was a special player in my opinion ......clever in the way he "attracted" free kicks from the opposition and a very skillful footballer ....his back heel in that Europa League game in which Osman smashed one home was sublime . If I caught Pienaar in bed with my bird I would gladly tuck him in ;-)

But your claiming he was better during this time, set piece goals doesn't prove that. If it was open play then okay, but the entire team during that time was utter gash

Oh, so we fell apart because he left?

Nope.

From Jan 2011 (When he left) to the end of that season we lost 4 league games - including away at arsenal & united.

We were renowned for starting seasons in a gash manner; so pienaar's absence for the start of the next season as being the prime reason for doing so then is negligible.

Likewise for the second half of the following season when he returned. We were invariably a second half of the season team under moylez.

sock it him Dixie!

Moyes got a lot out of us from 2002 to 2009 when we had a pretty weak squad

Yes, after that we didn't really break the glass ceiling when we probably could have done considering the squad we had (The first XI Moyes had in his last season for example was very good indeed, but lacked the mental aptitude to really succeed, which came in part from Moyes hitting a peak and not knowing how to go further combined with the fact that we were comparative paupers when matched against the top sides in the League), but we were comfortably over performing for the first 7 years or so of Moyes run.

We were a team who by rights should have been in the bottom half and he was getting regular top half finishes and getting us to the latter stages of cup competitions

Players like Arteta and Pienaar stood out even more in those days due to how weak overall our squad depth was. Just look at our bench for that 2009 Final for further proof of that

Do you remember this time? My eyes bled we were that awful, there's no surprise how we picked up when he returned, he was playing some of his best football like you your self pointed out earlier in the thread

It was no surprise (To me and a few others) pienaar played his best football when he returned (On loan, anticipating a contract)

As I said, were we invariably a second half of the season team under moylez.

pienaar's return (and best form of his Everton career, quite possibly) was down to more factors than some want to consider.

Fans like you make my want to cry, no ambition at all, and probably no idea what our club is about.
lol lol lol

There's having blue tinted specs and then there's been straight up soft in the head.

How on earth did you think we could've competed with the likes of Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal?

At best you can hope for a flukey season and that got us 4th but to think we should've been competing with clubs on a whole different level to us makes me a realists and you off your head

Would've loved for us to compete for the leagues, impossible when you're having to sell your best players to simply stay afloat though
