Don't disagree with this...I just find it sad that after a long playing career at Everton it ends in a fall out between him and the club...similar to the Distin situation. Totally avoidable imo
yes, it is not the mutually amenable denouement I would seek. But neither you nor I know the 'behind the scene' detail misconfiguring such outcome.
I only wish S Pienaar well in the future...he was a hell of a good player

Have to agree and disagree with you....loyalty and length of service to the club hmmmm two way for me, its two way between employee and employer.... he did not exactly show us loyalty when he moved to Spurs, moving away for a glory move that killed our momentum at the time, a move the doubters stated that Harry Rednapp did to reduce our threat to Spurs at that time, backed up with appearance figures for Spurs.

Loyalty... we have showed that in abundance, drink driving, consistent injuries

Piennar has been made a very rich man by EFC, the club that put his career back on the map but unfortunately he is on high income for virtually no return. I feel that he has been a loyal servant that has been paid extremely well and supported but for the better of the club he needs to be gone irrespective of how it is done, 70k a week could finance a very special new signing

Agree with all of this..however, doing things behind closed doors is definitely the best way to act imo..there really was no need for any of this to come out. Club should have discussed it with the player and avoided any fallout which does nothing but damage reputations

I must've missed this one - has he had words with someone or what?

Pienaar looking for a move

Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar says he is fully fit and ready to play as he eyes a loan move to the English Championship.

Everton said last week they will not discuss a new contract with Pienaar until the end of the season, but with his current deal due to expire in June, the 34-year-old is eager to secure his future, after spending eight seasons as a player with the Toffees.
“I’m 100 percent fit and felt in good form when I played some games in January,” Pienaar told KickOff.com. “I haven’t been in the squad for the last six weeks, I don’t know why, and obviously this is a concern for me. But that is the coach’s decision and I must respect that.
“Waiting until the end of the season to hear whether or not Everton wish to extend my contract is unreasonable, I feel. It’s not the way I envisaged ending my career at a club that has been such a major part of my life.
“My representatives have tried a number of times, unsuccessfully, to get hold of the club to talk about my future and get some indication, so I remain in the dark. Obviously I need to keep my options open because I would still like to keep playing for another couple of seasons at least.”
There was some interest from China in January, and Pienaar says he is open to any opportunity in Europe, the USA, Middle East or Asia.
“I have always been up for a challenge and if the environment is right then I would love to give something new a go.”
But for his immediate prospects over the next few months, the former Bafana Bafana skipper says he would be open to a loan move to the English Championship before that window of opportunity closes this coming Thursday.
“I am really just looking for game-time at this stage of my career so in my current situation I wouldn’t mind dropping down to the Championship to help a club there until the end of the season. That would be a great challenge.
“I still feel like I have got a lot to offer and at this stage of my career, what’s most important for me is playing games.”

I think it has been behind closed doors and the player does not like it hence it has been leaked by the player / player's agent.... i assume similar to Distin.

Sometimes players expectations are unreal, this proves that loyalty to the club is non existant or he would not drag the club into disrepute. If i was in Piennar's shoes I would be thankful that I am still on the wage bill and leave at the end of my contract with fond memories....

If he's prepared to drop a division, for all the 'I don't know why this is happening' stuff, he must know why he can't get into the side.

In his day, a great player but now? Rather than a fall out, I'd say this is just an old player saving face.

Probably true...but in truth he didn't do too bad when he came back earlier in the season...and we've hardly been pulling up trees without him so there may be something in what he says

I like Pienaar and he's been a great player for us. Don't get all this loyalty stuff though. He couldn't get out of here fast enough when Spurs came knocking. He even made himself unavailable for the derby to get the move through.

Don't blame him, it's a job and he had a great opportunity. Just don't think we owe him anything.

We don't owe any of our players anything. They're highly paid to do a job for us. Can't be doing with the handing out of contracts to charity cases like Hibbert and Osman.

Sad to see but absolutely 100% finished as a footballer for us.

Says all we need to know about how crap Niasse must be looking though if he's supposedly unfit and Pienaar was supposedly fit lol
