I had a really weird dream that we played 3 at the back for a while and looked considerably better and more balanced

Must have been that cheese I ate before bedtime

McCarthy will come on for Barry. We will make heavy use of Coleman in this game, so maybe it makes sense to have three central midfielders. Davies and Barkley will play like makeshift wingers as necessary. I'm not a fan of starting Barry in most situations as it implies that our goal isn't to win the ball, but he can certainly pick a pass. Koeman probably wants quick counters.

...I had a discussion on here with @bluestevon a couple of days ago and suggested Barry might start because he plays in the same space as opposition players who work 'between the lines'. Like Man City, Spurs have that type. Steven suggests he will get overrun because Spurs have more pace than City and he might be right, time will tell.

Don't forget Spurs are technically playing with 5 midfielders as well.

Dier, Wanyama, Dembele, Alli, Eriksen

Barry, Gueye, Schneiderlin, Ross, Davies

We've done it to match them - expect one of Barry or Schneiderlin to drop in as the 3rd CB, probably Barry. We did it against Sunderland.

That is my biggest fear. I like Barry against certain teams, but Spurs are definitely not one of them. I think we are playing for quick counters here rather than playing for possession. We might see James change that tactic when or if he comes on for Barry.

Does this mean Barry instead of Morgan will drop back? Need pace and energy against these, would have kept Morgan doing that and brought McCarthy in for Lookman, moving Davies up.
