With the squad we have I will be happy just trying to watch us win games, go for top 4 by trying to win every week. If that means finishing 9th then so be it. Rather that then sitting happily in 6th, 7th with no ambition of trying to win any game that isn't at Goodison like the previous 10 years

Top 7 the very least. There is no way the teams below have the quality to catch us. Martinez inherited a top 6 team so top 7 is not a big ask.

'Successful' - top 6
Acceptable - top half
Unacceptable - 11th/12th
Fail - below that (and looking wobbly to hold on)

...of course if we win a cup it'd be a successful year regardless (barring relegation)

Agree with this.

With the squad we have: European qualification
With 3-4 new promising young additions top 8 would be good for this season

Top Ten would be acceptable for martinez' first season...... I suspect we will finish much higher but realism has to kick in and common sense tells you that it takes time for a manager to settle in and for his ideas to take shape on the pitch. I'm prepared to give him that time and give him a fighting chance.

For me I'm not giving Martinez a season to settle in if you want to call it that. People who say top ten and a good up run obviously are.

Martinez has said himself he needs to carry on the job and improve it, top 6 and a good cup run equals that but he said he aims to beat that so I'm looking at top 5. He's got a full pre season with the squad so he's come at a very good time for himself and his team so top 5 must be achievable as he has said in not his words "I am better than Moyes"

He's got to be afforded some slack in his first season.

Top 4 would be a "success"
Top 8 ok
Top 10 acceptable (along with a good cup run)
Bottom half unacceptable (unless we win a trophy)
Bottom half without a trophy is a failure.
*We must not forget that we have no divine rights to the top 6, there are other clubs with better finances who also want those positions and who will also see it as a failure if they don't get them.
Time has moved on unfortunately and we are no longer a top 5 team in this country and neither are Liverpool for that matter!
The millions upon millions at Citteh and Chelski have seen to that

Bottom half should be a sackable offence. Everton should never be finishing bottom half with this squad.

We've got to maintain our home record and continue to slaughter teams at Goodison. Away record in London needs to improve as well.

I'll call that a success

Listen and read his interviews, he aims to carry on Moyes' job but better it. That's the message I've picked up from them.

What are you some kind of psychic ?

oh no.....

if you were you would never have claimed what you did about Stubbs.

What you have actually done is listened to him speak, then come up with something totally different in your own head, then posted it on here and said " this is what he said but he never really said it " basically.

Everybody is entitled to post what they want on here , which is great, but stop makiing things up is all.

I'm starting to feel sorry for Martinez already.

This is his first "big" job. He has lost almost the entire coaching team who have trained and set up the team for the best part of a decade. He has barely any money to change the squad.

Yet some people seem to be expecting him to reach 60 odd point in his first season.

Anything north of 50 points will be a good start if it is combined with integrating young players into the squad and a change in the style of play.
