Boris was a player when he wrote for/edited the Spectator, pure 'smoke and mirrors'. Clever in the Classical sense like.

Not sure what the Yanks are up to though, they drew a distinct and independent 'line in the sand' regarding chemical weapons, something particular to Syria, because they've tolerated Turkey gassing their citizens at least.
