So, this Syria thing...

back up a few years or so. Afghanistan was under a communist ruler supported by what was then the USSR. However there were rebels trying to overthrow that government, They were the Mujahadeen who received massive arm supplies from the USA, The USSR got it's backside kicked and pulled out. After a couple of failed governments the Mujahadeen took over but now they were known as the Tailban. Who are the taliban fighting now?

So the USA wants to do some air strikes and give more arms to the Syrian rebels, does this sound familiar and where will it lead?

Haven't been on in a while lads, been wanting to discuss this topic.

I think the commons vote to not intervene was the correct one. Not that I'm defending the Assad regime, if he didn't authorise the use of chemical weapons he still fired upon protesters and activists a couple of years ago. However at this point we certainly can't side with the FSA, full of imported militants and heavy Al Qaeda links, not to mention their alleged use of chem-weapons a few months back. Finally, Syria and Iran have a mutual defence agreement so Western involvement would escalate things on a global scale (Russia and China) so it's just too much of a risk.

It really sucks for the innocent people of Syria who are now caught between 2, at best, questionable factions. Perhaps something could have been done a few years ago, but now, for me it's too late to intervene.

the Russia/China thing is a very big worry, this situation is more than just a powder keg

Seriously....No.....and if you knew anything about real capability neither would you. Both Russia and China sound like big scary guys, but they are not........

oh mate do us a favour with all your assumptions about what people know about

honestly, you sound like a very small minded little man.

Sorry mate, didn't mean to upset you, but you just carry on abusing people. OR MAYBE, why not tell us why China and Russia are such big scary people........

To be fair mate, I wouldn't worry about the prospect of any US v Russia/china open warfare; you will have the Russians doing all they can to keep Assad in power, providing arms etc but what i find interesting is just how far USA go: if they target bomb Assad, they really need it to be a means to an end i.e. how Libya was when UK and US forces got involved. Assad is more in control than Gaddafi was, with powerful allies

This is the real issue, and what Assad can do to stir up the region, especially in Israel and Saudi. This will exercise the minds of the US far more than what Russia and China think or do......

I was wondering if the US were planning on leanin on Israel today when I read the Israelis had been "testing" missiles.
