He said his agent deals with all those things. He just concentrates on playing football.

He didn't say that his agent was talking through his arse when he said he was 99.999% certain to sign a new contract.

My take on that is. Agent says he's signing a new contract and Rom saying his agent deals with all those matters equals Rom signing a new contract.

However I suspect your take on it will be a bit different Dave:)
No, I think that sounds fair.

Lukaku and his agent are obviously not going to be signing contracts just yet until they see if the cub receive any concrete bids from CL clubs who can afford the release clause or whatever figure they have in mind if there is no release clause.

Forget about all the 99.99999% nonsense. It's just a stalling tactic to prompt movement from other clubs...if there is to be any.

It wasn't pointless. It gained the club some good exposure.

Exactly .

We've just had a day dedicated to us on Sky Sports News , interviews features and the like . I can guarantee if the RS had had it there would have been loads complaining both about their exposure and our failure to do the same .

We talk the talk about wanting to get back to where we where decades ago but any attempt to do it gets snipped at . That's both on and off the field by the way.

Fully agree mate. I can't see any reason why we couldn't combine the two but, as you say, nobody else seems to have been able to in the past.

My posts were more about how we are going to be perceived by other clubs fans. On one level, it's quite nice to read other supporters say nice things about us and we have lots of regular posters on this forum from other clubs who are, on the whole, made very welcome. In a way I'm quite proud that we are, on the whole, quite well respected by our peers. However, I'm also conscious that this is partly because we are not perceived as a threat by them. That will change. The top 6 will treat us as proper rivals, and the rest will look upon us with envy. It's just the natural way of things.

What we do in the community will wrongly be viewed in a different light (not by any of us I might add), as would the fantastic gesture the club made with young Bradley which would probably be construed as a publicity stunt by money bags Everton, rather than the plaudits we quite rightly received.

Or do you think I'm just being a cynic?

Well I hope we can still retain a bit of affection from none Evertonians, but as you say that will be hard if we become a more ruthlessly successful club.

As mentioned I believe every sports team has a duty to it's community and heritage. Something that we have embraced. The gesture to Bradley is not one of publicity, and even if someone wishes to take that cynical viewpoint then so be it. The main outcome is that the little boy was given a chance of a prolonged existence and I am proud that our club was able to aid that.

It can be cheesy at times, but it sends out a positive message.

Agree with this. Hope he signs but still think he is waiting to see what offers come up from other clubs..

It was a pretty decent and successful PR exercise.

When was the last time we were being talked about so positively several times an hour?

The Sky crew even said how well they had been welcomed and have had a great day!
They are doing a week at Liverpool next month, a WEEK !

1) You are correct, but shouldn't we be using our wages and financial clout to attract boss young players instead?
2) If him joining meant that Davies wouldn't get a game, would you be happy?
3) Glad we agree on this, but not sure of the Gareth Barry comparisons. GazBaz's strength is his ability to read the game which is vital in the position he is in. Was Rooney ever as good at doing that?
4) £100k/week on a 32-year old player. Think about that for a second. Rumour has it we are going to offer Rom the same, but with Rom's constant goal threat and being a beast up front he is, in footballing terms, worth the money.
5) Here's the problem. Rooney is a player that polarises the fanbase. I imagine younger fans (not that I am suggesting you are) may not remember him sticking in a transfer request on deadline day, or the fact that we got compartive peanuts for him. I have no doubt that a few important goals would do a lot to assuage these feelings. The team spirit is good at the moment, but imagine United came in for Tom or Seamus - what do you think Rooney would be telling them on the sly? Swerve in my opinion. We don't need him where we're going.

However, all things said, I respect that you're entitled to your opinion fella - even if I disagree on a few points.

The main issue for me regarding Rooney returning is the rumour I am hearing that he wants the captain's armband if he comes back. Based on what? Why does a player who had a reputation for losing his temper deserve it over Bainsey, who has been a loyal servant of the club for almost 10 years? I appreciate my opinion may be in the minority here, but the onion-headed meff can do one as far as I am concerned.
As I said in my summary mate, if this were to work, Rooney would have to come on the basis that he is a part of a squad with no guaranteed starting place. In fact he would need to accept that he probably wouldn't be first choice in any one position. If he doesn't, then we don't entertain it. Simple as. Also, I don't believe for a moment that he would come demanding the captaincy and, if you're honest with yourself, you probably only want to believe that because it dovetails nicely with your opinion of him.

So in answer to your question about Davies, no I wouldn't be happy with Rooney replacing him, Barkley or Rom, but none of them will be able to play 2 games a week, week in week out for a whole season.

When I compared him to Barry I wasn't talking about the position he plays, I meant that he could still bring something to the table, unlike Hughes, Gaza and Ginola who were all finished. In fact, I wouldn't have Rooney anywhere near our midfield full stop.

Most Evertonian's agree that we do need to bring in another forward as back up to Rom and a forward looking player with guile. In the ideal world we would bring in a top class player in their prime to fill both roles. However who would come to us at the moment?, especially in the striking role where they know they would be playing second fiddle to Rom. In reality, we're probably going to have to bring in younger players that need more development. Rooney could provide short term cover in both positions, whilst significantly increasing our profile, giving us time to bring those younger players through.

Or, as you say, we can just let the onion headed meff do one;).

To be honest mate, I don't really care one way or the other. If a deal can be done on our terms, great. If not, move on. I'm still confident that the club are moving in the right direction.

It can be cheesy at times, but it sends out a positive message.

Of course it can but it's that sort of fast food telly , people have it on in the background or dip in and out of it .

The reality is some people will know a lot more about the club , about EITC , about the academy, the ground , our ambitions and plans etc .. it's not going to win a bafta but it's raising the profile of the club and after the last few years credit to those behind it.

Moshiri is connected with people at sky sports.

We've just signed a deal for sponsorship of the training ground, by a company that Moshiri has extensive connections with

Sky sports name drop the sponsor name on countless occasions throughout the day.

Makes perfect sense to me.
