He's two years down the road since we last saw him and I'm not sure he's got the legs to give us what we need in that RM role.
The Guardian 9. Dec 2009 said:The seasonal spirit isn't always a force for good, however. It can make managers do strange things or offer charity where none is required. David Moyes, for example, seems to have mistaken Landon Donovan for someone who can hack it in European football and wants to take the LA Galaxy forward to Everton on loan.
He was knackered and complaining about 6 games in two weeks I don't blame him. Just a thought he wouldn't be a bad pickup.
As has been discussed though, I don't see him as primarily a RM. I actually like him better in a more central role behind the strikers taking on defenders (especially lethal on the counter), who can also play out wide, left, or partnered upfront with a striker who can hold and distribute.
I'm willing to be convinced - it's games like Sunday's that make me wonder.Regardless, I hope this happens cause it gives us OPTIONS. We have a very winnable Jan/Feb - minus a difficult period in Feb with Man City, Chelsea and the red crap. (Although Americans still won't get to see Donovan vs. Dempsey, which is a bummer.)

Could he partner Saha up front?
Yes. He had an extended period playing second striker for the US national team and the Galaxy. Often still gets moved up top if in need of scoring (which is what happened this past Sunday).
He originally started out for both club and country as a striker, and was moved by Bob Bradley to RM. And to some extent, David Moyes helped support that move when he had Landon play as a true winger here.
My only question here is Saha's style of play - does that suit linking up with him. Based on the limited time they played together in 2010, seems like the answer would be yes.
But in recent times he has looked better marauding up the wing. Space is his friend.
With Coleman being more established now compared to 2010, not quite sure what Moyes is going to do.
That's what I was thinking. Considering Drenthe looks good and Coleman is doing OK (plus rumours of Pienaar returning) it just seems like the wings are fine for now - whereas up front we're heavily inexperienced. I'd like to see him up with Saha, I think their playing style would work well together - Donovan's pace with Saha's technical ability.
And general laziness.
