Sir Landon Of Donovan

Never really understood how it works in the MLS. I just bought Landon on FM11. 1.3m of the fee went to the MLS it told me?? Random

I think they own the players and they are franchised to the clubs. Something like that anyway. When we tried to buy him in May they wanted £12 million for him, not LA but the MLS !!

As my main man LCAB is out at the moment he asked me to put this on here !

Before I do he asked me to check his Ladies... So hi to Cali, Rafuh and Nelly ! Also to everyone else in the States I haven't mentioned !!

Landon has had a bit of a bagging since his refusal to come here on loan in January, so I have an update from S; with a bit of clarification in what has happened.

Apparently, Landon was open to a move before LA Galaxy became less keen. Landon felt as though he needed a break but wanted to cut it short to come over here. LA relaxed their stance and Landon more or less agreed to come which meant our gaffer could concentrate his efforts on Strikers with our wide player sorted.

Now here is where it changes, the MLS are currently re-negotiating their TV Rights and didn't really want Landon leaving when they are about to begin Marketing their product to the TV companies. Also as David Beckham has it written into his contract that he can go out on loan , the MLS did not want to lose 2 of their Major Stars at what they see as a crucial time in the marketing stage !

It still looked at one stage though as Landon would still make the move but obviously, someone has advised him to reject the loan. What we don't know is whether David Moyes will re-consider Landon in the future as he does not like to be messed around and having received some positive feedback from Landon only a week ago then we'll have to wait and see.

Update over...

Thanks for the update THT. It's as suspected - money motivated. Infact backs up what I was saying when I heard about the $400k a game figure.

I can understand MLS's position even not agreeing with it.

It seems to me like they were NEVER going to allow him out.

Instead of putting Landon in that position and Everton. But hey ho. It happens.

It'll hurt MLS in the long run though.

That's about the size of it Matty....

If this is true, that the MLS and perhaps L.A Galaxy are marketing their t.v appearances and media prospects on glamour* rather than ability, it is insulting to the intelligence of both the fans and the other players on the L.A Galaxy rosta. Sky television have been doing this for years by using the faces of Drogba, Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard when ever they mention their teams in promotional material. Much in the same way, they'll show a still of Cahill celebrating by puching the corner flag etc.

So, the MLS are again using Landon as a marketing pawn based on his celebrity status rather than his ability ? Now, would of been the perfect time to let him step aside and let some of the younger more up and coming players stand in the spotlight and let the next generation get involved and inspired. By telling them, "YOU yes YOU, that kid watching at home in Bumf*ck Iowa..you could be next ( insert name of up and coming star) and one day you could play in the big leagues of the EPL like your hero Landon Donovan..go chase your dream" !

But the Benjamin's speak louder than anyone in the USA :(

* when I say Glamour , I don't mean their looks.. :D

in between:

I was going to say MLS should have sorted out those new "stars" coming in quicker. Instead its backed everything up and now meant Landon's been stuck.

What happened to Ronaldinho going there? Etc.

Hmmmmm....

Money motivated. If we had a slush fund and a big budget surplus we'd probably have just got him. Unfortunately without outside backing we just can't pay the figures quoted for a 29 year old.

This is one of the toughest ones of recent years for us blues.....

what was I saying?

* it's so true. Because without a production line of players coming through of Landon's stature... it'll be stop -start- stop start development of the MLS.

It'll hurt them. Can take the cash and run now. But short term gain for long term loss is never a good business plan.

* Capitalist here see?

Fair enough.

If that was definitely true (as in if we had the money, he would actually sign for good), then I guess I can be more sympathetic to his views. However for that kind of cash we should no doubt be aiming for someone younger imo.

Read that kids(@ditchoefc11) tweets, just happens to be in LA from Liverpool? That STINKS!!!!!
