Sir Landon Of Donovan

Maybe Bruce should have rested him against the Islanders, or maybe once the Galaxy had ensured a playoff spot he should have been rested.. ?

Bruce Arena is an idiot.

Oh absolutely, no argument there. Arena should have only brought the b-teamers to Puerto Rico, that not only fatigued the whole crew in that stretch of poor late-season games but he really didn't need to take Landy (or Buddle) especially. He bungled not only the MLS season, but the US Open Cup and CONCACAF - so he had his own incompetence-trebble in my eyes.

Landy had a truly long couple of years though, the PR game aside. It was clear that he wore down as the year went on and he was a shell of his self when he returned from South Africa.

It doesn't help though when MLS season/World Cup/US Open Cup/CONCACAF Champions League all overlap each other within the same several-month window. Landy only does what he's told, yes he was overused by Arena, but he's the one that suffered from exhaustion - and the Galaxy suffered the consequences as a result...

I have a suggestion Mod - why don't we just move it to the World Football section at this point? We'll be talking about him next year
anyway...

It seems that everyone is missing the fact that Landon was gassed.

I have watched every one of Landon's televised games with the Galaxy, he was not the same after the World Cup. It was clear that he was pretty exhausted, the type of mental fatigue that a week's rest wouldn't helped.

His level of performance in Galaxy games dropped off, yes he was still dangerous as ever, still doing a fine job running around on the pitch, but he was not getting as many touches, not involving himself as heavily on offense, not finding the open room he is so good at.

Everton would not be getting the Landy of last year, that is for sure, it would have been a fatigued Landon that needs some down time to recharge the batteries.

Interestingly, today Gremio (Brazilian club ) announced Ronaldinho had agreed to a contract once they come to terms with Milan. The Galaxy had been looking at bringing him in, and now might be more likely to want to keep Landy, it was rumored had they landed Ronaldinho they would have had to get rid of him. It does seem unlikely, but we never know what will happen.

One thing is for sure, Landon loves The Toffee's and would most likely only want to return here...

I do think fatigue definitely played a factor in his decision. He's been saying it for 2 months - that he wouldn't do Everton any good if he came in too tired to perform to optimum or if he got hurt.

It's funny readin' some of the comments in here tho....some of y'all sound like jilted lovers. Isn't that Bianca's area? :)

Laughing here that certain Evertonians are saying we're obsessing over an "average player with pace" and then banging the drum about a player like Chris Eagles.

Seriously? Please stop embarrassing yourselves. I thought the English knew all there was to know about football. Apparently not.

Many are also plainly missing the point of why Donovan was a great fit for Everton. Sure there are other players that are out there but Donovan was a no-risk deal. How often do you get that opportunity in the transfer market? Let me answer for you. Not often.

Everton could have made this a moot point and ponied up the 10M it would probably have needed to get him here permanently but apparently we don't have the funds.

...and if they turn around and pay that much for a different winger in Jan, I am going to be PISSED. Striker? Fine. Winger? Mad.

that TMZ report seems like a load

Landon and Bianca talk to each other every day on twitter.... very flirtatious too

LOL, it's hard to argue with the actual court documents that TMZ provided. Oh well, I feel sorry for him that all of this is so public, particularly the spousal support and attorney's fees thing. It seems improbable that she makes more than him--what gives? Odd, that.

Can't wait to see who he ends up dating next. Hopefully it's not some fameho that makes him put his house on Cribs and uses him for Twitter followers.

Bleh

Landon will regret this. Galaxy will be [Poor language removed] again next year.

Up Juan Agudelo, Blues should take a close look over the next couple years.

Comical. Absolutely comical.

I think the Daily Mail (big shocker) had a typo where they said Everton were interested in Edson Buddle - it was combined incorrectly in a sentence I think. Which then got picked up by a few other rags. I'm not even going to post the links it's such bad journalism, but I laughed hard over the fact that basically Everton has been linked with anyone who is anyone on the Galaxy at this point. Absolute crap writing.

I now understand the concept of Daily Fail.

EDIT: What is interesting in some of those same rags is that they say Moyes is also looking at MLS since they are in the offseason for bargain basement players. The LD/Stu Holden effect. Off the top of my head I can't think of any bargain strikers - minus who Grogtank just mentioned, but he is very very new and unproven.

Teal Bunbury? :)

(I've only seen him once and like him, don't know if he is ready for the Prem yet though.)

She's on a surprisingly successful sit-com. Someone said it's in syndication. They make lots of money.

Plus, he probably blames Rules of Engagement. Things were going great between them until she suddenly gets a little attention for being on CBS and all of a sudden he's fallen down on her list of priorities. :)
