Sir Landon Of Donovan

As much as I want Landon at Everton, I have to kind of respect him for staying in LA. I mean, he's a hometown hero and his team, which he captains, is in a title hunt. I mean, imagine how we'd feel if we were up there late in the season and Arteta suddenly peaced out for Barca or something - it wouldn't be the honorable thing to do. By waiting just a few months, Landon can finish off LA's season respectfully and still end up where he (presumably) wants to be be in the long term.

I just read that Everton made a late 16M USD bid for Donovan and it was turned down.

Hmmmmmmmm.

I just read it and it seems that MLS wanted $16 million USD and Everton would not pay that much. We all know LD fits a position that is a question mark on the team. It makes sense to sell him after the MLS season is over. That price tag will go down in January. It makes sense for all, we are skint. LD on loan in January with an option to buy, but at a lower cost than $16 mill USD.

$16 million USD is about 10.4 million pounds. Wait till January if he plays well again for us then we can probably get him for 7-8 million pounds 10-12 million USD.

Oh, LCAB, was this last minute offer true? I believe you over the Yahoo Sports man (goodness knows whoever his "source" was). And since you didn't mention this in the transfer thread, don't know if I believe it.

I hope MLS's turning down of this offer (if it existed) doesn't put off Everton from a January deal (although it seems MLS have stuck to the same continual message). Only so many times you can go to the well and be rejected. Although LD has a choice since a loan is in his contract.

As much as I hate to say it, I see Hail Evertonia's point. I blame the Galaxy a bit for this - they are playing terrible right now. They need LD (and Becks) to save their playoff run. No LD, no going deep in the playoffs. If the Galaxy was playing a bit better, I would have said this last ditch offer may have had more of a chance. But with them declining of late, they need LD. Hence the business person's comments in the article.

They will overhaul their squad come 2011 though - they have too many older players, and theoretically bring in Ronaldinho for LD. All signs point towards change for this team since their current form is not working. And Tim in the article says "at this time" - read, this year.

I wouldn't read too much into his twitter page - I think that's him choosing to focus on his team through the rest of the year since they are mounting a playoff push.

I hope they win the MLS cup, but at their current form, no way. Which means LD will get almost two full months of rest before a loan in Jan. He needs it.

EDIT: I forgot. We're skint. Why do I believe these things?

Think everyone deep down that the only way we'd get Landon again would be on loan in January. Hopefully if we get some cash for Yobo it'll help fund the Landon deal?

From what I have read it seems that LA want him to finish this season. After that he's fair game. I expect Landon to see the transfer go through in January.

Loving all the West Coast positive vibes filtering through this page :) I agree, after what LD said about Becks jumping ship to Milan once the flash bulbs had died down a bit in Hollywood - to suddenly do the same thing now would be both hypocritical and detrimental to Donovan's image as the 'All American, American!" . Galaxy are is employers as of right now and he comes over as that rarest of rare in football these days, an honourable guy. Once the Galaxy either get kicked out of the cup and / or their league challenge starts to flounder, he'll be chomping at the bit to come back to "Them Good ol Toffees in that there United Kingdom, ya hear" ( don't know why he's all of a sudden Southern!). Hopefully by then, we'll have convinced him to make it permanent and to get ready for a Goodison welcome fit for a King..Plus, ain't he got a kid to some Scouse floosey on the way? Get packing Landon, Jeremy Kyle awaits!

Thanks LCAB. Feel better. After I wrote my missive I knew it was stupid. Ah, hindsight.

This thread to go dead now until end of November-ish.
