Sir Landon Of Donovan

I'm not new, no.

And I realise that there are more reputable newspapers than the Daily Mail but this is a direct quote, unless Moyes has been misquoted. It's a very choice word though, 'might', just seems to suggest there maybe be something going on.

Fairly good chance he has been misquoted mate. The Daily Mail once used a known fake Steve Jobs Twitter account to write a story about the iPhone 4G - I presume the journo either got sacked or bunged a few quid for breaking his cherry.

Despite LCAB being one of the soundest guys on the internet, and a genuine ITK, i'm going to ignore him and blindly believe that Donovan will be back.

I'd much rather live in delusion than face the despair of reality. At least in terms of football

1) Donovan isn't going to any other club in the Premier League, despite what the learned posters on Big Soccer might think. Donovan was "chosen" and I seriously doubt that he'd come out, say that he wanted to go to Everton, and then turn around and take sloppy seconds with Villa or City. Won't happen. Spain or Italy? Sure. England? It's Everton or no one at all.

2) I still think there's a chance he could make it here. You know, why don't we offer the transfer fee in installments? It happens all the time. Give 'em their 7M in two years vs. one year. You could even add on a few incentives such as making Europe, winning the FA Cup, etc....

3) Addidas made Beckham's move possible to the MLS along with several of his endorsers. Now I know that was Becks and a whole different category when it comes to endorsements but why can't we see Donovan's endorsers works something out as well?

4) Worst case? He finishes out the MLS season and then comes back in Jan. By then, our money situation may be a bit clearer.

Oh...and chew on this one for just a second.

Why would Everton's Official Website publish a story about a player that wants to come back?

If Carsley, Lescott, Preki, or (insert name of ex-Everton player here) said they wanted to come back, would the Official Site put up a story about it? Does anyone remember that happening recently?

I don't.

Preki played here? Is that the same Preki that played for USA and now coaches in the MLS?

Excuse me for not knowing my history here.

*edit: I just looked on wikipedia and it says that it is the same one.

Thats a big chunk of history right there.

Really awful history mind.

I saw Preki score at Goodison in the 5-3 QPR debacle.

You were right LCAB - kudos. What a bummer. I'll still keep an eye on things until 8/30 though because I can't believe all this talk was for NOTHING. And I do think it's cruel that the official website put up the LD-wants-to-come-back story a couple of days before Moyes says no-go.

I think Moyes' quotes are a bit mean to be honest - something about the tone, right after LD says he'd love to go back. Wonder if there will be any response - is this the way folks communicate during the transfer season? Aka from Moyes: "MLS, your price is too high. Please go phone Nike or LD himself."

I think it's sad that this can't be worked out. Hell, if I were LD I'd toss in $2MM of my own dinero to make this work.

Huh - just occurred to me that maybe this is also Moyes' way of telling LD it's okay to look somewhere else. The fans sure wouldn't appreciate it, but...

Blasphemy I know.

From News of the World (love how these quotes are slightly different than the rest):
By Greg Gobere at Carrow Road, 31/07/2010

DAVID MOYES has told Landon Donovan he would love to have him back at Goodison Park... if only he could afford him.

David Beckham's LA Galaxy team-mate issued a 'come and get me' plea last week, saying that he wanted to return to Everton where he made 13 appearances in a three-month loan spell last season.

But the MLS club will only do a deal for a permanent move - and they want as much as £11million for the 28-year-old.

Moyes has pleaded with his chairman Bill Kenwright to make the transfer possible but the Toffees board say a deal is dead in the water.

The Goodison boss - who saw Tim Cahill's hat-trick sink Norwich at Carrow Road - confessed:: "Don't you think I've asked my chairman to make it happen?

"We'd love to have Landon but he looks too expensive for us and we just don't have it.

"We don't have the finances. The price the MLS want for him is very big and it's an additional problem because of his age.

"All we've done is spend £1m on Magaye Gueye so far. Jermaine Beckford and Jan Mucha were free, so we've spent no money by Premier League standards and will probably be the ones who spend the least this season."

SSN is saying West Ham are interested in Yak for £9m. Decent price for Yak on current form and dosh could be used towards a Donovan deal!?

I sure hope so. That should be enough for LD. And if MLS is quoting higher than that, SHAME ON THEM. I just read somewhere that Yak wasn't in practice today or something like that???? A sign?

I wonder if fan backlash is going to count towards anything here. The way this is progressing - and the clear communication between parties (Everton yes, LD yes, US and Everton fans yes, MLS no), that's where this is rapidly heading. The soccer critics in the US (most noticeably EVERYBODY on ESPN) will skewer MLS. Guaranteed.

God. I so want to go on a rant about this, but it's just too painful. Our best player. Trapped by money. sfkskfjsldkfjsfjaslfjdk
