Sir Landon Of Donovan

Have an incredible hard time believing he'd sign for the red [Poor language removed]. He has been here and played for us and knows the kind of relationship that exist between the clubs, so he'd sign for Ramsbottom United before pool.

Maybe when he signs for them they can take their USA flags to analfield.

No hang on they burnt them.

Not gonna happen is it.

Donovan's main problem has always been his unwillingness to run at players. Part of it is I guess is that he's not an exceptional dribbler. Pienaar for example has much better touch and close control, dribbling, etc. But Donovan's very technical in a lot of ways, he puts in a good ball (one of the mysteries of his stay at Everton is why he didn't take more corners, even though he didn't take that many I can think of at least two goals off his corners) and is a good finisher, outside of Tottenham.

Arteta is the most technical guy on the team. Pienaar's probably more technical because of his control but there are things Donovan does better. Osman is iffy, again he has better control and touch but Donovan is better in other areas. I think Donovan's better than Billy but I don't rate him like some people on here do.

Edit: I think Billy's good, I just would like to see more consistency and I don't think he's really at his best out wide.

One point I always make about Donovan is that it really seems to take all MLS players at least until the next season to fully adapt to the Premier League. Since most come over during the January window, they're not in match shape and haven't gone through the pre-season training with the team. The following season, after a properly synchronized training schedule, plus time to adapt to the higher level of play, they improve significantly.

I don't think Donovan will improve as dramatically as Dempsey did or Holden likely will, simply because he's a more developed player from today. But should he make a permanent move, I think you'll be surprised to find that there's more there than you've already seen, indeed more than *anyone* has seen, simply because the best of Donovan's game hasn't emerged because there just hasn't been the sustained need for him to develop it.
