Have you guys got any recommendations for a Whisk(e)y newbie? I tried Laphroaig 10 years and I liked it. I also had Johnnie Walker Red Label, Jameson's and Ballantine's Finest. Haven't been really excited with them.
You have chosen very well. Pronounced BOON-A-HAR-VEN. Best one ever.Just got a 12 yo Bunnahabhain (no idea how to pronounce so if any Scots want to lend a hand) very nice tipple. Would be a good choice for a newby to quaff

Last night I gave it a good nosing, sipped it whilst pulling some air back over my tongue and my god I was in heaven. I like the Balvenie Double Wood but this stuff ****s all over it. I didn't add any water and I don't think it needs any.
I'm in love.
Very peaty. For peat, my preference is Caol Isla, Lagavulin or Talisker[I used to like the Laphroaig 15yr old which has a completely different character to the 10 yr old, it is now selling at ridiculous prices & been replaced it with a 18yr old £67. The cheapest 15 yr old is £125

The double wood is another delightful wee drop. Very smokey.
Just bought a bottle of Lagavulin 16.
Peaty, Smoky and very tasty. A bit like Laphroaig Quarter Cask but a little bit more refined. Gorgeous nose on it.
