Should Phil Neville be anywhere near our first team?

Neville, is a captain. A damned good captain at that. But you can't have liabilities on the field when you are fighting for Europe or fighting to win at all if I am truly honest. Liabilities can and will get exploited, and this has to be fixed, he can't be left in the first team when we have better players that can take his spot.

The mans a great captain but you could see all our 1 touch passing coming to a grinding halt when it came to him today. Better at right back or against the big teams when you're trying to close a midfield. Today when we needed someone keeping the ball moving like Gibson does, he was terrible.

What annoys me most is his crossing. He never bends one in with pace that a striker just has to get his head to, he never puts it between the defenders and goalkeeper. He hits straight down the back of the ball and floats it so our players have it all to do. How can you not learn to cross? How can you not cross a football as a professional football player?

I've said earlier in this thread that he should never get anywhere near our midfield but what amazes me is the number of people on here who are being so critical of him.

Surely it's the manager who picks him to play there...it's not like Neville is going to say to Moyes "Sorry gaffer, I don't fancy playing DM because I'm **** there".

I think on balance Moyes is a great manager and we're lucky to have and have had him for such a long time and hopefully many years to come. That said, like every other manager, he has his downsides and weaknesses. Playing his favourites regardless of their fitness, suitability for the position and overall ability is certainly one of them.

Simple answer NO - Captaincy should have been removed this or even last season -he's been a great professional, but at the age of 35 he should be a bench warmer for us now with the new signings on board. DM has even signed David Weir as a player FFS!

I think Osman still deserves to start, hibbert still is a good squad player

Personally, the 1st choice striker and midfielders (we play 4-4-1-1) are Jelavic, Fellaini, Mirallas, Gibson, Odjidja-Ofoe and Pienaar so no place for Osman I am afraid. He and Hibbert are squad players/subs.

I thought he was fine vs Manu and Villa. We had worse players on Saturday, Fellaini being one. If he finishes his chance before they scored then we win the game.

It was reported when Neville first joined Everton that one of the things that decided him was that David Moyes had said that it was an opportunity to PLAY IN MIDFIELD.
That presumably was Moyes' thinking at the time. So there you are.

Well Neville was fab v united in cm, so if were going by last perfomance then felli should never play cm again?

Neville is a scapegoat cos he's an old manc with bleached hair. In reality he's captain and moyes first name on the team sheet. With gibson injury prone, then we'll see lots of neville in midfield
