No, the club should actively encourage questions from them. And get the players to read from a script wishing a painful death on McKenzie in reply.

I've never been in favour of banning anything really. But this guy just doesn't stop, the paper allowed him to be published and he has shown himself to be a bigot. I've never bought the sun, and I don't believe a copy of it has ever been in my home, so for me banning it is irrelevant, but I think the club needs to speak up now......

I think this is a good point. To a lesser of greater degree a lot of the media runs on writing pretty nasty things about people. Racist, sexist, homophobic, intrusive, slanderous stuff. But as my brother a journalist says, if they wrote nice things less people buy it. In the end we do get what we pay for.

That being said it's hard to play down the severity of what he's done. The jibes about scousers and drug is loathsome but in all honesty this is regular commentary amongst even quite enlightened people in the south. You can't and shouldn't ban for that. I also think, to give him some defence (and I can't stand the bloke) I'm not sure he's aware of Barkley's background. If he'd have known I doubt he'd have published. That being said, it's how job to know, and his editors job to check. If in doubt don't go calling people apes really.

You are right though, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt but this is too far. We've had our star man who's been smashed on a night out and the club have stood behind him and rightly said he was victim of an unprovoked attack. You've then got some idiot, who's insulted our fan base but more importantly decided to lay into our star man, call him thick and useless and then use racial slurs against him for getting being hammered. I do think the club letting this slide would look very weak and would be leaving Ross out to dry a bit.

Liverpool would never stand for that. Neither would United. Look what Fergusan banned the BBC for. If we want to be a top club again, we have to start standing up for ourselves and letting people know our players are off limit for such attacks. The lads been through enough with every pundit lining up to attack him never mind no marks like Mckenzie.

As has been said by some already, Anderson calling Everton out for this in such a highly critical way, is out of order.

I'm not turning my back tomorrow either, because Everton haven't done anything wrong.

Personally, I don't think a ban is necessary. Liverpool, as a city, already shows it's contempt for the 'newspaper' which is known throughout the country. Neither should we do something just because Liverpool did it 2 months ago.

Are we going to ban everyone we get offended by now ?

i hope we don't turn into "those" fans

No we should not ban everyone we are offended by. However if a Newspaper turns what is an unprovoked attack on one of our star players (who's wavering on signing a new contract) into an attack on the lads integrity, intelligence, background and ethnicity without making some sort of stand you do have to ask questions of the football club. They'd never get away with doing that to Liverpool. Can you imagine Alex Fergusan letting anyone get away with doing that to one of his team? His star man Kung Fu kicked a guy who racially abused him and Fergusan went on the offensive!

And you know what? I would want to be those fans, and that sort of club. Because they are the ones that win things. It may not be right, or the decent plucky little Everton thing to do but it's the mentality that needs to be pushed by this board if we want to be successful. I honestly think if Mckenzie would have pulled a stunt like this to a United player Fergusan would have got his address himself and gone and battered him.

That's all the more reason to ban the Sun. People need to realise that this type of casual racism is not acceptable.

I think you're confusing Alex ferguson with Big Dunc in your last sentence mate

What I can't get my head round is this massive protest about 'total eclipse of the sun', and the black cabs wanting to cut off roads around goodison etc - why the fck don't they barricade the place where the paper is printed, and distributed to the whole of the north west and beyond, and stop the circulation. stopping newsagents from stocking it would have more of an impact than them going to waste on a shelf.

The factory is only about 4/5 miles from goodison and anfield. But I'm sure the cab drivers know this but decided to bully/belittle Everton into negative press, and save themselves from having to deal with any police issues, and potentially be accused of driving jobs out the city.

Btw - not voted as I think the gesture means little (should have been doing this 28 years ago after the article was written about people of this city), but I'd fully support the club banning the sun - and while they're at it the echo, the mirror and the Mail from these parts. The echo definitely a second after the sun.
