It's a scummy paper and the Barkley article is unsurprisingly scummy.

Some of the things he says you'd hear from some bloke with a few a beers inside him in a boozer at 11 o'clock but this is an article that will have been read and reread , so no excuses he knew exactly what he was saying and it's unpleasant at best .

As for banning the paper , if this had been at the time I'd have backed it unreservedly but it all seems a little contrived now for me .

I actually read The Sun at my son-in-law's house that day and the coverage was written in such a way as to make people think that The Sun were innocent victims of fake news in April '89 and that the truth had only just come to light.

They took a "we are so sorry we were fed wrong information" sort of line.
Agree 100%.
The fans urinating on the dead was the one.
Inexcusable journalism.

The truth would probably have been fans saving the lives of others for hours and needing to take a piss, and did so on the sidelines.
But there's no headline in that is there.

Sun was tory [Poor language removed] before '89 ....

I used to know the bloke who became their senior political correspondent.

He cut his teeth on the Bristol Evening Post, and made his "name" by going after the husband of a murdered wife, Shirley Banks iirc. Camped out on his doorstep, lobbed fliers through his letter box, called him all times of the night. He was quite proud that the 5 warnings he got for his "efforts" were picked up by his new employer. Told me the tale over a few pints at a wedding. Utter louse.

A bloke called John Cannon was done for it in the end. He, Cannon, has been linked with the missing Suzy Lampugh ever since.

Allegedly, in case his ego is still big enough.

Of course, it should be and presumably, more so hopefully, will be following this.

MacKenzie & other idiot writers constantly writing garbage like that Barkley 'story' are not only deeply damaging to press freedom & public trust, it's position - somehow and bemusingly still - as the biggest circulated papaer in the nation ruins a vital industry. How he continues to be employed is not only ridiculous but is absurd.

He - and his paper, to be fair - are consistently ridiculed by proper writers and publications who are held to not only industry standards but standards and values as good human beings.

These are not 'incidents', they are continued instances of blatant racism and attacks on our players, club and above all, city.

Do the right thing. Don't just tweet at the club, tweet at Brian Doogan - Head of Comms for the club - @doogan_brian
Complain to IPSO - https://www.ipso.co.uk/make-a-complaint/

Don't just settle for MacKenzie, bring them down as a paper.

Of the 7 currently I was one. Should've banned it in 1989. As said above we both should've. We never. They never, until very recently which, IMO, made them look a bit daft.

The less said about that shîtstain McKenzie the better.

Up there, or down there, with Brendan Rogers starting to have a black armband on about 3/4 of the way through the season when they won the league 3 times.

Their, the papers, reputation is a widespread one of utter disdain. Everton reacting to a bellend columnist under the guise of Hillsborough is just inappropriate imo.

And, as Thomas says, daft.
