I think we should take our time appointing and let the big man continue...especially given the list of average Joes who know very little about the premier league and even less about our club.

It’s worth remembering that as a player or whilst on the coaching team, Duncan has been involved with every single manager at Goodison since Mike Walker in 1994. He has seen how every single manager has operated - the good and the bad - that’s pretty unique.

I’m 37. I worshipped Duncan as a kid and I’m not going to lie, Saturday was a wonderful 90s throw back of hard tackling, hard-work, passion & emotion. Singing ‘Duncan had a pigeon’ on the Gwladys on Saturday made me smile from ear to ear.

I’m not suggesting we keep Duncan in post based purely on Saturday or his idol status though. It wouldn’t be like Saturday every week. I am suggesting we give him a chance because of his unique knowledge, love and passion for the club as a proper Evertonian; as a British manager that would be respected, feared and adored. He’s spent 6 years on the team, he’s done his badges, the players respect him....why not? Far better than another Silva, Martinez or Koeman.

We won on Saturday because Dunc made the players fight, tackle and show passion. He knew that would win the Goodison faithful which we all know makes the difference. When Goodison turns toxic I don’t think any manager has a chance.

He would need the right team around him tactically and Brands would need to be the main man for finding the right players. If they get that balance right, I really think it could be something special.

It was an excellent result, but still just one game

We've got no idea if he could sustain that for the remainder of the season

Let's not get carried away, if for no other reason than the fact it puts undue pressure on him

Stay calm, stay measured and let things play out
There lies the problem, as let’s be fair there are not an abundance of managers wanting to test themselves at Everton
The concern is we could be getting a manager for the sake of getting a manager, and that could be a recipe for disaster.
At present we are in a position caused by Ferguson were the optimism and the belief we will work hard and push teams has been installed.
I agree can it last... nobody knows
While we have it let’s not throw it away, and let’s go the game to watch a hungry Everton team that want to win
unless we have a proven manager in the wings who we know will improve us and get us moving in the right direction on and off the pitch.... then than Duncan for his efforts

An excellent result but
His passion is commendable but how will that fare when things go west?
I doubt we will have an OGS Man U situation but I hop we do
I think Duncan knows his position and is expecting it to be only until an official manager comes in.

But my honest opinion is if he can keep on winning I have no problem with him as manager. its performances/results that matter to me.
But it's only one game but a six game undefeated run...?

Another classic Everton flavor of the week thread. It's either over the moon or in the acid pit sometimes with this club. How about we take our managerial options slow. Let Brands figure his man out and let Duncan have the reigns until then. Like he said himself he is not a manager yet and believes that the club need a top manager in a time like this.

I want to take our time and get this right and I'm not going to hand a debut caretaker a contract after one game, but this is basically what we need from a maanger. He picks the team, sets them up and motivates them, then tells Brands what he needs to improve it/agrees which young players he will be happy with to flip for profit two years later.

If that relationship works then we're onto a winner. Thats the key for us to build towards the upper reaches of the table.

From surrendering to the RS without so much as a tackle to what we witnessed Saturday is highly progressive in my book. Also the art of tackling is as entertaining as the so called 'beautiful game.' You know the one, tip tap, fall over for a foul. Saturday was football 'like Mother used to make' and I thought it was great. Also congrats to the ref for allowing the game to be played that way and Chelsea who did not spoil it with modern gamesmanship.
It was moyes football. I liked moyes football back in the day. It would also be dyche football, I would not be unhappy with Dyche. Although I know that is not a popular opinion.

What happens if we stick with Dunc and end 17th? Who we gonna get then?
Now is the time to get the manager in
I think my point was that if he looks capable of keeping up and over the next few weeks / months we should stick with him potentially til end of season. All the time we can actively be sounding out managers. Obviously if wheels aren’t falling off, we pragmatically look at the best manager available at that time.

One very odd statistic, and it has a great deal of relevance to this thread, since appointing a manager we've only ever won trophies via a man who had played for us. I know that Howard and Joe both preached passion to their players, that passion was exemplified by Duncan on Sat. Could a manager who never experienced that fervour convey anything resembling what happened on Saturday to his team.
Like most of us I'm very wary of a false dawn but give DF a backroom staff of former players such as Tim Cahill, Dave Watson or Leon Osman and he might carry it off.
Thanks for an unforgettable video day Dunc!!!

he should stay till summer for sure. who we can appoint atm? unai emery?? good ebening man? he was mocked by his players for god sake. if not unai then who?? pochettino? ofcourse he will come to everton over real madrid. last canditate moyes? oh god everton has decreased as a club.

appoint Big Dunc as a manager and call it a day

If things work out short term it is a fascinating thought to perhaps hand him a contract for the remainder of the season in January to see how he would develop knowing someone is not coming in after the next game to replace him. A bit of peace of mind to work longer term and see how he and the team evolve. Give him a good #2 and let them soar. The footballing romantic in me is almost wetting my pants just from the thought of it!

I'd give him it over xmas at least. If he does ok then until the end of the season.

Same risk as Arteta for me without the pay off if it doesn't work.

Problem with making Ferguson manager is he is not the sharpest tack in the tin. You might get a short term boost, but it won’t take long for things to go pear-shaped. Is enthusiasm makes him a decent shout for a coach, but not the actual manager.
