Really?

Who else was playing in midfield today then?
We don’t have anything worthy of being called a midfield at present, and that includes the currently vastly overrated pretty boy as well.
We are creating about 1.5 chances per game at the moment , primarily because our engine room has failed to spark into life thus far.
( Don’t mind me, by the way, I’m in a foul mood at the moment)

Is this Mainz’s second team?

Just looked at their lineup, and some obvious players missing for them are Mateta, Quaison, Gbamin, Kunde, Niakhate, Latza and Fernades as well as new signing Pierre-Gabriel. Not sure of injuries and such keeping players out.

At the end of the day, Mainz are a small club (and that is no insult, they are a great football club and very well run), and a small budget team, who's main goal is to stay in the league. They buy to sell, that's how they get along!

No its fine, im also in a disgusting mood.

Everton are just adding to it.

Yeah we look utterly toothless currently, suspect the viking is still on his honeymoon, but it is preseason, other teams appear to be trying much harder than us and im not making excuses but Marco does ride these boys pretty hard, 2 sessions a day most days.

A few new players and everything will improve.

If I say it enough, even I might believe it.

:hayee:

Must be pretty annoying for silva to go through the motions of getting players fit and playing a certain way knowing that (hopefully) half of them won’t kick a ball for us all season. Complete waste of time really.

I think it's a lot more than the 3 chances he missed - most PL strikers do better if they don't score. It's that you've got a player out there that is offering absolutely nothing. In possession, he's barely an alternative. He played a bit better with the few touches he had in the first half, but he HAS to come back to the ball more, hold up play a bit, and allow us to get forward. He's just not good enough at it. As a result, it takes A LOT of clever interplay to build up with our fullbacks. There's just no outlet up top, either, when we are under pressure - Richy normally helps that, too. Pickford might as well just hand them back the ball half the time.

Two things here: 1) I think that's the gameplan, playing between the full backs and playing it wide; 2) he held the ball up well just now, including the play in the channels which is another form of the same thing.
