Selling gueye will be our biggest mistake this season

....really don’t think selling Gueye was a ‘mistake’.

Players hold the power in the modern game, when they push for a move it invariably happens. We kept hold of Stones against his will and it backfired, Lukaku left when he wanted to go, as did Barkley.

I have no issue with Gueye leaving, it’s what happens. Looking forward to seeing how we play when Gbamin is fit and firing, players come and go.
The RS lost both Suarez and Coutinho who they wanted to keep. As you say it’s all about replacing players with sufficient quality. Sadly for the RS they’ve come up trumps replacing them. As for us Gbamin and Delph for combined 34m offset by the 29m for Gana. Time will tell if this was a good deal or not.

I would have loved him to have stayed but lets face it, we managed to keep hold of him in January with a probable promise that he could leave in the summer if the offer was good enough.

Gueye wanted to leave, everybody knew that.
He probably agreed in January to stay until the summer on condition he would be allowed to leave then.
I wonder what kind of performances we would be getting from him now if we blocked his dream move a second time ?

We are building a team and will have to accept there will be poor performances on the way.
As with last season I think we may be at our best after Christmas.

Our defence has been fine. It's our attack that's been the problem and Gueye contributed very little towards that. We're fine without him.

He wanted his move, behaved in a respectful manner and was good for the entire time he played for us. He deserved that move.

Does it make us worse? Yes, but if you keep a player when he wants to go that sends out the wrong message to players who would want to come to us. Players who want to use us as a stepping stone to bigger things, which is where we are atm. The likes of Kean wouldn't be interested if we were just gonna keep him against his wishes when the bigger teams come calling.

  • Gueye is about to turn 30. He plays a physical position. When his form drops off the cliff it's not going to be pretty.
  • The one-dimensionality of his skill-set precluded us from employing certain formations.
  • We made a lot of money on the sale.
  • We did sign, if not an exact replacement, another DM, and another guy who can at least provide some defensive cover in midfield. It's not Gueye's fault that they both got hurt right away.
  • Players have to view Everton as a good stepping-stone (which every club is, other than a few you can count on one hand). If we prevented Gueye, who was a loyal soldier, from making the move, other players would not want to come here.
  • As noted, even when we had him we often struggled. He's not the one piece between us and a CL spot.
So I'm fine with it.

You make a lot of valid points mate, but at the end of the day PSG see what he brings to a side and that’s why they have just signed him. That’s shows the quality he possesses.

Our ball retention has been awful. Gana always took care of the ball. That's a massive problem with this team the last two years and it's made worse without him in there.

Gbamin is going to be great, but he plays differently and we still are lacking a CM that can both play defense and create. Gomes is not that player.

Why does everyone keep speculating about this? Brands flat out said that's what happened.

He honestly didn’t. One of the worst passers of the ball in important areas we’ve had.
