Sell to buy

It’s good that you have faith but you thought with your heart over your head. I and many others saw it coming.

If you look at the fact we’ve just given Pennington a new three year deal that tells me we lack money to replace and improve on him and we are once again trying to patch holes the cheap way. He’s not good enough and if there was cash he’d be sold and we’d have brought in better

So you don’t buy into the fact that clubs extend contracts so that they get better fees for a player when they are in longer contract?

You don’t seem to want to believe that the squad is massive, unbalanced and needs severely trimming.

Brands is simply pointing this out. You missed the point quite spectacularly.

No problem with this at all. The squad needs 10-15 players out the door, and really only 3-4 immediate starters in. If Brands is as good as advertised, he should be able to make that happen without going in the red.

(Combining wages and fees)

The squad isn’t big in terms of depth as we lack severely in many positions. It’s “big” because we are including the many u23 players who keep being given new deals when they clearly aren’t cutting it

Pickford, Robles, Stek.
Coleman, Kenny, Martina, Baines, Holgate, Mori, Jags, Keane, Williams.
McCarthy, Besic, Davies, Schneiderlin, Gana, Mirallas, Lookman, Bolasie, Rooney, Klaassen, Walcott, Niasse, Tosun, Sandro, DCL

27 right there without even tapping into the u23’s

Rooney - 180k
Schneidercrab - 125k
Sandro - 105k
Williams - 80k
Bolaise - 80-90k
Joel - 30k
Stek - 40k

I'm not great at maths but that looks like a decent bit of spare change.

Im superb at math.

We can prolly claw in around 85m in fees and save 1m a week in wages by selling everybody that doesnt belong, replace them with 3 ballers, 3 yoots, money in the pocket, improvement.

I dont care if we spend 20p this window, people are so caught up money, these people prolly think we can buy Icardi, zero idea how modern football works, I pity them in a way C, I really do, anyway, I digress, it doesnt matter how much you spend, it only matters whether the squad is improved.

We have spent around 300m on players in the last few windows and we havent improved a single aspect of the team, MAYBE GK, nowhere else has been improved. Im not surprised Moshiri has cut the purse strings, if it was my money getting peed up the wall I would be cutting heads off, nevermind cutting purse strings.

Brands confirming today we have to sell to buy

Finally some honesty

Said for years we always have to sell our best players to fund our summer spend and this year we don’t have a big name to get rid of and the truth is now coming out. Hopefully more honesty from the club in future

I’m also excited that he wants to get rid of the big earners who aren’t performing and the dead wood to bring in younger players. We’ve seen it work for spurs and city and even the other half. Let’s go
If you were to re-read his interview, do you think there is a chance you have maybe taken him out of context and focussed on one half of a sentence which could be twisted to mean doom and gloom.

Thanks for the analysis MG, I appreciate it.

So what you're saying is: this selling to buy business makes sense because we're pissing money up the wall that can be used more efficiently? Well, that makes perfect sense to me.

Lol we can't afford to replace Pennington. Don't even know where to start with that

It's not sell to buy though is it really, We're just getting rid of the gash before we start buying, I mean how can a new manager expect to worth with 38 players? It just shows what a circus show we've put on the past 3 years.

Dunno C.

We could always just keep 38 players, buy another 10 players and file for bankruptcy 6months from now when we cant afford to pay everybody.

Its an option like.
