2025/26 Seamus Coleman

What has anyone seen from him that makes you think he deserves to be a first team coach?
Personally I haven't seen anything from him yet that makes me think he is deserving, or would be an asset as a first team coach - he's never been a player who's come across in his interviews as much of a "student of the game." When him and Baines took charge for the game after Dyche left, I recall Seamus saying words to the effect that Baines was doing the tactical stuff as he was used to doing that with the u18s, and that he was doing the motivating. So we all know Seamus has passion for the game and love for the club, but none of us can really know much about his tactical nous.

Ultimately, it's for Moyes to decide whether Seamus warrants a place on his staff though, so it doesn't really matter what fans think, but I certainly wouldn't begrudge him being given the chance to develop as a coach under Moyes, working directly with him and the first team. When we've had the likes of Sammy Lee, Rafael Benitez and Charlie Adam on that bench, I like seeing an Evertonian being given a crack.

I mean you've just described a typical Everton fan but they dont get paid 50k a week to do it.

Ah, it is jealousy then that they are not being paid a professional footballers wage 😋.

Seriously though, no reason to go all out attack on his character though. The finances in football are not his fault.

The post earlier responding to me saying that it is just the internet being the internet, is most likely the truth of the matter.

Some of the comments just got on my nerves enough to comment.

I agree, I have no ill will towards one of the best players we've had in the last 30 years. For my point of view, I just like to have a laugh about it all. You can't question his commitment, but you can question the people who keep giving him contracts.

You got to question the thinking behind giving him another 12 months after hardly playing the previous season. Why be surprise when we signed a few players last summer and gave them hardly any game time when we had so many departures.

In fairness the roles you have just outlined for Baines / Coleman were very much the roles for Kendall and Harvey. Anything approaching those levels and we would all be over the moon.

Definitely. Always good to see one of our own excel in a role with the club after their playing career has ended and legends like Harvey and Kendall should be the benchmark.

Same, I love seeing Baines on the coaching staff as he was a great player for us, but I don't think being a good Evertonian should automatically warrant a spot on the coaching staff. I'd rather us get the best person available for the job, whoever that might be; which could well be Seamus when retires. I was just wondering if there was anything other than that which people have seen that makes them so eager to give him a role once he does.

I'd send Baines out to get a job and get experience at another club with the expectation he'll do a good job and be considered here in the future as our manager.

Coleman can slip into Baines' vacated position. I think he's probably a one club man Coleman and would wilt away from Everton. In my minds eye I can see a Baines-Coleman future for Everton at managerial level. Some clubs have a history and culture of promoting ex-players to become manager and Everton are one of them.

Ah, so you can start two games in a week for Ireland but only 11 minutes for the club that pays you handsomely.

Whatever he gets isn't enough. They should double his wages for the value for money Everton have had.

And Moyes chooses to leave him out of the team...unless you think Coleman picks it and leaves himself on the bench.

Lol.
