2025/26 Seamus Coleman

Fantastic servant & great value for money (although that’s clearly diminishing over the last 3-4 seasons).

When you look at the players that serial winner SAF let go during their total domination, it just illustrates why we will never win anything. Whoever decided on this contract extension needs to be removed. That’s absolutely no disrespect to the player. But the contract award was utterly ludicrous. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum my ar5e!

I thinkit was because he had just capained us through our darkest period for twenty years and just giving him the boot would seem a little disrespectful. One year on low wage while still unifying the players is fair imo.

We’re in the business of winning! It’s not a charity.

I thought this sort of sentimental bollox would have gone away with Kenwright.

Up to now, In the last two years for Everton he’s made this playing contribution (according to transfer market stats):

11 appearances in total, 462 minutes played.

Like most Evertonians, I want players to be fit and available for our threadbare squad but crikey, those numbers would make Fabian Delph blush.

Don't even need to check to know he's played more minutes for Ireland in the same period, too.

He's earned the right do what he wants here: stay on and be involved on the playing or coaching side.

In living memory only Gary Stevens was a better RB than Coleman for us by virtue of the fact he was in winning teams and because of his all round game - and especially his crosses were much better than Coleman's. Tommy Wright I didn't see but he was I *know* a very special RB and sits above Seamus in the all time pecking order. But Seamus is in that company.

All that said about Wright and Stevens, the game was different than when Wright played and even when Stevens played. Seamus got 22 goals against better opposition than either Wright or Stevens would have played against and they only got 4 and 8 career goals respectively.

On that basis you can defo call Coleman our best all time attacking RB.

But yeah...post *funny* pictures of Coleman being stretchered off with broken bones playing for Everton and stuff because that's how classy you are.

I think maybe it's with an eye to him moving into coaching and as he still plays for Ireland he didn't want to retire as a player so we gave him a playing extension even though we're probably more interested in his potential as a coach or future manager
